  • The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways. Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar. We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.

CCHA v3.0 - AU BGSU BSU FSU LSSU MSU MTU NMU & Special Deserters - The UST Tommies

That wouldn't be Midco's fault. They just stream what the local production gives them.

I'm aware that Midco is not producing on the ground. But as pdt1081 pointed out, the production in many cases is also sliding backward. And Midco made a big deal about how they were going to visit each school and assess their capabilities before the season started, so they haven't done anything to help with that side of it either.

Things I like about MidCo
a) Condensed games. This is a cool feature. It's like a highlights package on steroids. I can get a sense as to how the other games went without spending hours and hours.
b) It functions. Not that Flo didn't, but I haven't encountered any streaming issues related to MidCo. A particular game may have issues, but that's on the host school, not necessarily MidCo.

Things I don't like about MidCo
a) $$$. It's expensive. I hope the league teams are seeing a substantial cut of the revenue here.
b) It's not idiot proof for the schools to manage content. More than once I've clicked on a replay or something and it doesn't work. In 100% of the cases it's been the fault of someone at the school doing something wrong, but MidCo should have a better managed user experience on that back end and some sort of quality control check to ensure the content is available.

Things I don't understand about MidCo
a) From the press release, "CCHA TV will be a one-stop shop for all CCHA digital content." It is definitely not that. The only digital content apart from the games is what seems to be a never-ending stream of Luke Strand press conferences. While that may be worth the price of admission in Mankato, it doesn't move the needle for me. It could be a one-stop shop if they (whoever "they" may be, whether it's MidCo, the CCHA, or the school SIDs) put some effort to it. There are podcasts and YouTube content out there, but you have to look for it and it sure isn't anywhere on the MidCo platform
b) As PDT mentioned, production has declined. Is that due to MidcCo as an organization? Maybe, but I don't know what they committed to. It could also be a problem at the individual schools. I'm not sure where to point the finger on this one.
c) There was supposed to be "added CCHA content," but, again, the only added content are those Strand press conferences. Recaps? Previews? Player and coach interviews? That was the sort of stuff I was anticipating, but is the lack of that content on MidCo, the league, or the SIDs/schools? Don't know but I'd feel better about the cost if this sort of content were available on the platform.

All-in-all I give it a B-.

and right after the game the replay is not there the majority of the time. Flo had the replay posted immediately after the conclusion.

That's largely due to Midco's change in the responsibility to upload. Flo actually did it themselves from the concrete bunker in Texas. Midco requires the host school to upload the full game afterwards. And with the international deal that still resides with Stretch, the host school has to send two separate streams and do two separate uploads after.
