CCHA v2.9.1 - BGSU BSU FSU LSSU MSU MTU NMU UST & Special Guests - The Augie Vikings

Well, one thing is for sure after last night. Mankato can no longer say the refs cost them the win. Because the refs took their complaints to heart big time. I saw quite a number of uncalled Mankato penalties. Now sure, Tech did all those things they were called for, but geesh!

Yeah surprising to see Mankato not finish on all those PP's. They got one, however 6 PP in a game is too many chances
Still not crazy about this Tech team, Mankato had so many chances in the O zone that Tech gets beat on. Need to tighten up and not let the opposition get body position so easy down low

I've noticed two issues with the TV coverage we have in this league. 1. St Thomas overmodulates their audio output. Every other team's volume is pretty close but St Thomas for some unknown reason is always a lot louder at least until I turn it down. I think this is easily fixed if they choose to. Second, did you ever try to scroll down on the Flo hockey list to find a game? it's impossible to find some of them and I wind up having to use the search function to find games. I really! wish they would segregate games by league or find some other way to make it easier to find the college games.

It is easier to find games (or replays) on the internet. TV is difficult if not impossible at times.

I think the state of college hockey is concerning, at least for those of us that are fans of the CCHA. The BIG schools and the NCHC have pushed us away and flexed their power via money, and it is hard to blame them because they have no responsibility to our existence. I see the void getting deeper. How does the U.P. recruit quality players when all they can offer is 3000 fans and crappy Flo tv coverage, vs the BIG Ten Network and 10,000+ fans in the stadiums?
I can see the CCHA auto bid getting removed in the near future, as the power schools continue to take control, but I have to admit my gloom comes out of a poor performance this year by my NMU Wildcats.
Can the CCHA survive without the possibility of contending for a Championship? I just don't see it getting any better. I am really looking for someone to tell me I am wrong and there are brighter days ahead.

I don't think you're wrong about the state of college hockey. The whole landscape of the NCAA has changed drastically, and the rich are going to get richer, while the rest of us will be an afterthought. I can't see them taking away the CCHA autobid, though.

There are only 6 conferences. I can't see them taking a spot away. If anything, they'll go the way of college basketball and expand the field so middle of the road schools can qualify from the biggest conferences, but that still makes little sense, given there are only 64 D1 schools.
And that counts Stonehill.

The NCAA prefers 25% of eligible teams qualify for the National Tournament. College hockey expanded well before they had enough to be at that percentage, and only currently with 16 is right at 25%. To increase the field 2 more teams, there would need to be 73 schools. Of course, there's plenty of precedent for expanding early, including going from 12 to 16 with only 62 teams* back in 2003.

* side note, it's kinda crazy college hockey has only expanded by a net of 2 teams in the last 20 years. For all the new teams (Penn State, ASU, Auggie, Lindenwood, UST, LIU, Stonehill), we've also lost plenty as well (Iona, Fairfield, Wayne State, Huntsville)

Well, FloHockey is showing "no live stream available." I only subscribe for road games; I have season tickets for home. This will be the second road game FloHockey has failed to deliver this season. Unacceptable.

I was only able to watch via casting from my phone. Annoying, but not a huge deal

Crappy Flo? Most CCHA schools broadcast, including Northern, are as good or better than what the B1G Network or NCHC.tv offer.

Lol, zero chance.

(Flo) In terms of number of games, yes. But the feeds are poor at times.

(Regarding loss of Auto bid) I hope your right. When teams like Michigan sit on the bubble and don't make it in the tournament, and our conference champ goes one and done in the tournament, I can see the big schools making noise down the road. No teams in our conference are in the poll, currently.

The only way the autobid goes away is if the league membership drops under six schools. Remember the CCHA did produce an at-large bid two years in a row, and the WCHA had three teams in the year before that. In fact the last year that the WCHA/CCHA was a one bid league was 2017.

Whoever it is from our league or anywhere else that has to play BC in the prelims, I'm sorry you lost. Everyone else is at least a college hockey team.

You really need to watch NCHC.tv if you think Flo is crap. Miami's feed is terrible. Duluth's isn't much better. Western's is average at best.

For the cost, it really does lack. The theory is you get ALL these games, but I'm literally only watching for NMU.
