CC @ MN: More Nails in the Gophers' Coffin

Re: CC @ MN: More Nails in the Gophers' Coffin

These four (along with North Dakota) are the most televised programs in College Hockey, regardless of playing record. You can't hype what you don't have in terms of programming. Win or lose, I bet Minnesota still draws the largest number of TV eyeballs of all schools.

I think it was last year, where EVERY MN game was on tv. Every. One. This year, "only" something like 26/32 games were on. We really take it for granted here, I have to admit.

Some where I read the top two college hockey tv rated games of all time involved the Gophers.

1. Maine versus Minnesota 2001-2002 National Championship Game

2. Michigan versus Minnesota 2001-2002 Frozen Four Semi-Final Game

Re: CC @ MN: More Nails in the Gophers' Coffin

Hello Gopher Nation,

I am taking my father to the games this weekend from Colorado. I'm hoping you can be helpful with answering a couple of questions about Mariucci. Primarily, I am wondering the following: for Friday evening's game we have seats in section 2 row 11, and, I recently noticed the back portion of this section is a student section.

A) Is row 11 in the student section?

B) Will we be killed if we sit there?

[In the event CC plays well, we're pretty tame and won't draw attention to ourselves.]

Thanks

Re: CC @ MN: More Nails in the Gophers' Coffin

Since it is at home, I am predicting the Gophers take atleast 2 points this weekend.

Re: CC @ MN: More Nails in the Gophers' Coffin

So, will MN get swept again, or will they eke out a tie this weekend?

FYI, games start at 6:05 Friday / 3:05 Saturday. This would be aggravating if the team was any good, but since that's clearly not the case, I doubt anyone really gives a ****.

The 3:05 start wouldn't be so bad, if the Wild were playing at Home.... Then at least we could drown our woes in Beer and Captain at the X while watching some real hockey...... On a side note the U really needs to change their alcohol policy...... Especially IF they keep Don next year…..

I would likely be a little more worried for you if the Gophers were occupying their typical position near the top of the standings. I've seen the students get pretty rude with opposing fans. However, because this season has been a big disappointment, and because CC is not UND or UW, I'm pretty sure you won't have anything to worry about. The only exception is if CC gets a lead, and you and your group start getting loud and noticable. Since you already mentioned you are not likely to draw attention to yourselves, I think you should be o.k. Have a great time. :)

I don't believe you can use student tickets without a student ID so I imagine you're not in a student section, but I could be wrong? If for some reason you are in a student section your deaths will be painless.

Or move to one of the various empty sets of seats that will be sure to be available. :D

Re: CC @ MN: More Nails in the Gophers' Coffin

Maybe they could move behind the Gopher bench to the Friends & Family of Don Lucia Section?

Re: CC @ MN: More Nails in the Gophers' Coffin

My school playing my hometown team! Grew up watching the Gophers with my dad, currently going to CC and friends with the guys.

Gonna be there in my CC jersey sitting next to my dad in his Gopher sweatshirt!

Re: CC @ MN: More Nails in the Gophers' Coffin

No they won't. Their "B" game is probably worth 3 points in this series.

Why? To thwart an offense that doesn't produce three goals per game? With very few exceptions, MN has made opposing goalies look like all-stars. If CC scores three goals in either game, we can just say "game over" right then and there since we know * well MN won't get to three.

Spare us the cliches. MN has no confidence, their powerplay is an abortion of the rusty coat hanger variety, and their defensive zone coverage is often non-existent.

...also, the Gophers can't score, have a spotty defense, have played them almost assuredly out of the NCAAs...

...and that's why this series is s a split.

Re: CC @ MN: More Nails in the Gophers' Coffin

My guess is the Gophers will mail it in for the rest of the year and get swept. Friday nights game against Denver was IMO one of the their best efforts of the year, and they still came up short. With this said, they realized they couldn't compete with the best teams, on their best night, so they will quit (like Saturday night).
Sadly, I will still watch! :o

Yeah with the schedule the way it is from here on out I don't see many wins. Maybe against Bucky because of the whole rivalry throw the records out the window thing but otherwise it looks rough. I will still watch as well but I may need more beverages than usual to get me through the rest of the season.

Re: CC @ MN: More Nails in the Gophers' Coffin

It's Thursday already and less than 50 posts in a Minnesota game thread. A true testament to the current state of affairs in Gold Country. :o
