Castleton

Re: Castleton

I agree with you. I'm not saying he is the best player out there and with some new freshmen playing who have some serious speed it was almost inevitable that Ayers would find himself out of the lineup. College hockey is a lot about, what have you done for me lately. He shows he has some presence out there and is obviously fun to watch after seeing him play the last couple of seasons, but as these incoming kids get bigger, faster, and stronger there aren't many places to put a guy like Ayers on this team. It just shows you how this team has evolved over just the last two seasons.

you can have all the speed in the world but if you don't backcheck/forecheck play the body and stay out of the box what good does it do you? Ayers is not the slowest guy out there but from what I have seen he is very smart

Re: Castleton

big game against an undefeated Plymouth state team tonight. It will be interesting to see how good Plymouth really is this year.

Plymouth has faced much weaker competition than Castleton this year. I would be suprised if the game was even close. Castleton has already defeated NEC and St. A's on the road who are both good D3 teams. Just wondering what hockey fans think of the MASCAC league?

Castleton in a cake walk

Wasn't quite a TOTAL cakewalk boys. The upper MASCAC teams are probably on par or pretty close with the mid-level ECAC East and NESCAC teams.

And hawk, Saint Anselm is not a D-III team, they are D-II. :)

Prez I was suprised by the Castleton 5-2 score over Plymouth. I realized that Plymouth was a decent MASCAC team but didn't think they could compete with one of the better D3 programs in the east. I have relatives who graduated from Plymouth and live in the Plymouth area so I am familar with the program. Something you probable don't realize Plymouth is a big sports school and has many competitive teams.

You're right....I know nothing about Plymouth state's other sports teams. I only work in Sports information. I'm well aware of plymouth's successful wrestling program and they are currently ranked 5th in the region seeing as they just had a duel with Norwich last week. Their football team had a fairly decent year which shocked me a little because the nefc is considered to be this loaded conference when on reality u think it's quite overrated. Norwich could compete in that league and they've proven it by beating plymouth in scrimmages the last two years and beating western new England last year.

Football has been the big sport on campus and seems to always be competitive. With there new hockey arena I could see the hockey team improving. I guess Plymouth is set in the MASCAC but they would be a nice fit in my favority D3 league.

Oh boy, they would run afoul of this:

And Plymouth, with their nice new rink and very good fan base, should be a MASCAC power for the forseeable future. They have to upgrade their OOC schedule a bit possibly picling up Little East rivals USM and UMD at the expense of some of their current cupcakes.

Does anyone have any new information on Castleton's Josh Harris and when he will be returning to the line-up?

Someone posted a little while ago he was suspended eight games. Should put him in line to play in the Rutland herald championship and be back one game before the big battle of Vermont showdown with Norwich.

Yes it is an 8 game suspension but this forum forced me to remove my post about it, so i guess they can't take down all these posts to lol! Hopefully he will be back for sundays championship. He will need a few games to get back into the swing of things. My only question is where are you going to put him? The top two lines are looking pretty strong so far, so its going to be interesting to see where he fits in with this team that has been so successful without him.

You coming to kreitzy for round 1 of the BOV? If so stop by the secondary press box on the home side of the rink.

It is not real fun going from Central Vermont with Route 107 still closed to thru trafic. So you have to travel Route 100 all the way up the valley. The people in the local stores in Rochester told me we would be luckly if Route 107 was open by Christmas. Right now Rutand is a hard place to get too or out of.

Yeah I was thinking about going, it really depends on travel plans. But If I do go I'll definitely have to stop up. As for the traveling itself Hawk, It really isn't to bad now. Route 4 is in very good shape now, 103 is a lot better, 107 is rough but I just go up route 4 past Woodstock and catch 89 all the way up. It's an extra 20 or 30 minutes depending on traffic but nothing to bad. I have to commend all the people that were in involved with the cleanup, especially the road workers, they did a great job getting all the major roads flowing pretty quickly, but you can still see the damage if you travel route 4 from Rutland.

I agree 100% with the cleanup effort. I had a chance to inspect the damage at Route 107 and its like the whole road was wiped out. The National Guard and the construction crews are going a super job to get the road open.
