My wife’s CRV had a bit of an issue. We are waiting on an estimate for a new used engine. We took it in on Saturday for an oil change, mentioned an overheating alert my wife had late Friday, and asked them to look. It turns out the head gasket has a reputation for failing, causing coolant to get into the cylinders, and ruining the whole thing.

After that, we learned the era of 2015-2019 CRVs has a known issue with its 1.5L turbo engine, engine model L15B7, for those who care. If you have a hybrid model, you’re in the clear as the 2L naturally aspirated engine is used for those. Fun times.

take it somewhere else if they are recommending a replacement engine based on a reputation of head gasket issues. Not saying that isn't the issue but there are tests to determine that. How many miles on car? If car drove in there for oil change without over heating??

They pulled all codes, checked the oils and coolant, and both were almost completely empty. And yes, I drove it about 8 miles to the dealership for the oil change.

It has 100k miles.

If there was no coolant, 8 miles would have had it overheating. No oil would lead to a seized engine. Again not saying it doesn't have issues as Hondas aren't what they used to be but something doesn't sound right. Did they change the oil?
 
You’re right. I have another call with the dealership today, and I need more details. With so much going on in my life, I’d been working through this in my head very slowly and incompletely these past few days

I had a 2006 Civic for a decade before the kiddo was born and currently have a 2016 CRV with nearly 180k miles on it. Both were bought new and they've treated me fine. Hoping to get to 200k on the CRV before replacing it, especially since I just had the timing chain replaced a few months back. I'm not racking up quite as many miles on it as I used to since I commute on the motorcycle when I can, but it's been a reliable workhorse for me for a decade.
