Cardinal/Panther Classic '11

Have at it.

Who's going to be there? What are we most looking forward to? Predictions? The floor is open!

Re: Cardinal/Panther Classic '11

Will anyone else be attending this year's Classic? I have been lucky enough to con the Editor into accompanying me up through the Green Hills (as the B.C. girl is wont to call them) to Plattsburgh (something about an NCAA quarter-final nightmare at Stafford back in the day when her daughter was a Bowdoin D, but anyway...). I have managed to watch the competing teams a total of 12 times this season, but it is hard to pick a favorite. I think home ice gives the Cardinals the edge. Amherst has been a mystery (or a work in progress...those blueline grads), Elmira goal play keeps them in any contest and the Panthers have yet to skate against a top 10 foe. The first 3 years of the Classic (not always referred to as such) were accurate in predicting the eventual DIII champion.
Any thoughts or predictions out there?

Re: Cardinal/Panther Classic '11

We won't be there..which makes the fasthockey.com coverage that much sweeter. This is a tough time of year to draw any type of crowd I would think. My vote would be to change the dates of this tournament to a more suitable time when weather isn't such of a factor (remember last year).

As far as the eventual winner goes...we've got Platty at home, Middlebury unbeaten, Elmira as last years tournament winner and Amherst the defending National champs.

This one is too close to call...

My prediction is a Platty win.

Re: Cardinal/Panther Classic '11

Tough to schedule the 4 teams any other time, what with conference play , men's home games and all.
Forgot to mention: Good Luck to the players and coaches!

Re: Cardinal/Panther Classic '11

I'm calling Plattsburgh over Middlebury in the final; with Amherst rolling over Elmira in the consolation.
This is a great way to kick off the New Year. Great lineup!!
Have fun girls!

Re: Cardinal/Panther Classic '11

I'm gonna retire from the prognostication business, but am certainly looking forward to this weekend. Its tough to get a sense for each team based on the topsy turvy results from first semester. When was the last time Plattsburgh needed a goalie to steal a game the way they did against Norwich? And just when you think its time to write off Elmira they knock off the Cardinals in a conference game. And when is Amherst going to wake up? And does Midd have the physical toughness to finally get back to their lofty status? Stay tuned for answers to these and other questions coming Sunday.

What a surprise seymore homer picks platty to win. I'm going with four ties.

4 ties!

...that's what I just got for Christmas! Cardinals on evergreens, panthers on deep blue background, MCEscherized Eagles and a purple-striped thingamabobby bowtie

ties may be the only way Norwich would benefit from the outcome. I'm not bringing any ties to Stafford -- they'd look out of place -- Midd over Elmira; Platty over Amherst; and Midd over Platty -- Elmira and Amherst can tie in the consolation.

Shall I remind you...

Norwich: 2-0
RIT: 1-1
Elmira 1-1
NEC 0-2

hmmmm...what was that, prezdehomer1011? :)

Good luck to all four teams this weekend. Hoping it (and I'm sure it will) lives up to the unofficial title of best tournament in D-III women's hockey!

Re: Cardinal/Panther Classic '11

If you were referring to the Norwich classic I believe the correct stats are:

RIT: 2-0
Norwich: 1-1
Elmira 1-1
NEC 0-2

Trots was reffering to my predictions, which he correctly gave the records that I had.

That's why I'm saying four ties at the Cardinal/Panther Classic to avoid all favoritism claims :)

Touche sir, but if I was being a real homer, wouldn't I have picked Elmira to go 2-0? ;)

Re: Cardinal/Panther Classic '11

Any chance that this tourney might take a cue from the Pathfinder(men's tournament) in the future and try to invite a western team as a 4th team? The thing with that tourney was that their was generally a weak eastern team in the tourney...obviously thats not the same case here. Well maybe Elmira :P
