Canisius at Denver - Saturday 10/26/13

Re: Canisius at Denver - Saturday 10/26/13

Old Pio, how do you like the HD broadcast?

Now that you mention it, the video does seem a smidge sharper. I doubt I would have noticed it on my own. "Course I'm already half in the bag, that could account for it.

How did the great nephew do last night?

Ryan did fine. But the game was a horrible fustercluck, penalty after penalty,--the last team making a mistake was going to win. In fact, after the opposition scored a late touchdown to move within 1, they missed the PAT. Ryan's team wins 13-12.*

The game featured something I've never seen before: a 300 pound defensive lineman evidently smarted off to his head coach and was not only thrown out of the game, but tossed off the team. Not a good idea to drop F-bombs on the coach I'd imagine.

*My brother and I agreed that my Oak Park Huskies would maul Ryan's team. They've got a lot of big kids (like Ryan) but they're slow. No real game breakers on offense. That doesn't materially affect his college prospects, of course.

I can actually watch it in full screen now.

Hey, it's not like the Pioneers are losing to a bunch of unknowns from upstate NY. Oh wait a minute, it's exactly like that [here in Magness].

Canisius is definitely better than Niagara. The boys need to amp it up a bit and hit the net. Stop shooting the puck wide of the net.

How are they looking? Someone mentioned earlier that they don't seem as aggressive. Any evidence that the goal against them fired them up a bit?

Not a lot of urgency. They definitely need to amp it up. Some bodacious checks might help.

Guess Crown in the locker room would be frowned upon.

Probably. But it might help in the post game brawl. Charlie just mentioned Holy Mother Church. Did you see where NBC just announced a deal to broadcast a bunch of their hockey games? Just what those a-holes need--more exposure and fawning, reverential (win one for the Gipper) coverage.

Canisius is better than Niagara. They are better skaters and are pushing the puck in the offensive zone. DU's passing not as crisp and not getting the looks they were getting last night. Zajac had a grade A chance in the slot when he was left alone and missed the net. Had he put it on net he would have had a goal. Sam had no chance on their goal and his best friend saved another (clang).

Do I understand nothing much was done to honor the two NC teams last night? If they don't do anything tonight it'll be typical DU, you ask me. Can you imagine any other school in any other sport inviting back members of national championship teams for homecoming then ignoring them? Not having them take a bow on the ice? What the h*ll is wrong with DU?

Two of DU's all time greatest players were on those teams and both are no longer with us. Would DU take a moment to tip the cap for Maggie and Morrison? Nah.

There was something on the big screen and an announcement, but it sounded and felt like it happened at the wrong time. As I understand it was supposed to be during an intermission.
