I think there are people even in Iowa who ask that very question. I agree it doesn't make a ton of sense. Iowa, from a demographic position, isn't particularly reflective of the U.S. as a whole, and the Republicans and Democrats who actually caucus in Iowa aren't even that reflective of Iowa itself. They are really just the extremes of each party.

As I recall there was some discussion or even threats a number of years ago about other states trying to jump ahead of Iowa. It may have even resulted in Iowa or other states moving the dates of their primaries in an effort to go first. If I recall correctly, there may have even been some sort of agreement reached to let Iowa continue to lead off. If I get time today, I'll see if I can find some old stories on it.

To my way of thinking we really ought to do primary days on one day each spring, around the country, then the final election in November.

But Iowa will literally fight this to the death. Candidly, the state has nothing else going for it. The four year campaign cycle is huge business in Iowa, and coupled with the "fame" it brings an otherwise "obscure" state, they won't give it up easily.

Bernie agrees to the debate tomorrow. This after the Hillary camp yesterday went all over and said Bernie was refusing more debates even after she had agreed to all his rules. Of course, when questioned about the debate he wants in New York, she skirted around that question. He still wants debates in NYC, California and Michigan.

And now Donald trump is calling for a reelection or for the Cruz results to be disqualified in Iowa.

Substitute "New Hampshire" for "Iowa" and you can make an even stronger statement. And it's not just fame and attention. The primary is actually big business for New Hamster.

My impression is that caucusing involves these sorts of shenanigans every election cycle, so I highly doubt this was a new dirty tactic by the Cruz camp.

Wouldn't shock me if he was low on money and cut some kind of deal with the RNC to drop, so they can start consolidating the establishment behind Rubio.

Rand Paul was going nowhere fast. Too bad because he's the only candidate on the debate stage who had occasional moments of sanity. However, the GOP just isn't where he is right now and libertarianism is at a low ebb in the party. He actually did better in Iowa than I thought he would.

Cruz does dirty politics better than everyone. Everyone hates him. He is the only candidate to ever win Iowa and be against the Ethanol subsidy.

What does this say about Iowans?

Scares me.

Paul is the most interesting of the candidates -- he was the only GOPer with a sense of humor about himself, and the only one who didn't play the "me pound chest" gorilla gambit. In short, he was the only one who wasn't a f-ckwit. Him leaving means there's nobody worth anything on the right.
