Men will never be free until the last banker is strangled with the entrails of the last lobbyist.
Somehow you have to include lawyers in there but yes

I'm not a fanatical follower of the Dem grassroots, but this is the first story pimping O'Malley I've read.

tl;dr: Warren's not running so O'Malley is the viable candidate for the liberal wing of the Democratic party.

Dude was my governor and I still have no opinion on him whatever.

I sure do wish the Dems would find someone other than Clinton! Don't want a candidate who's well known and up double digits on all GOP rivals running for the nomination dammit!

From ABC:

--ANALYSIS -- ABC's RICK KLEIN: Ex-presidents aren't created equal. Or, at least, they're not equal by the time history gets to judge. George W. Bush fans are likely to be Jeb Bush fans, just as Bill Clinton fans overwhelmingly favor Hillary Clinton in 2016, according to the new ABC News/Washington Post poll. But Hillary has a deeper pool to draw from than W.: Bill Clinton has a 73 percent approval rate, while George W. Bush's is at 47 percent. Enough said? Unless you also say: Barack Obama has an identical 47 percent approval rating in the poll. Hillary Clinton's is down to 49 percent -- 18 points below her high point, which came as she was leaving office as Secretary of State. In a race with echoes of history, it looks like which history major candidates are able to tap into could be determinative. As for now, Clinton leads her major possible rivals in head-to-head matchups. She would beat Jeb Bush by 12 points; Scott Walker by 14, Marco Rubio by 15, and Ted Cruz by 17.

47% for Bush? Kinda sounds like Romney's final vote %. :D

Are they voting for Bill or for Hillary?? I submit that nostalgia is a factor. Bill is well liked and it helps his wife. Bush43 is currently not in favor so it drags down Jeb.

I submit that those numbers don't mean dick until 9/1/2016.

Rover's problem is he's acting exactly like Ms Medusa -- if you're against her you're TEH ENEMY!!111!

They both have a lot to learn about coalition building, and they better figure it out in the next 18 months.

Doesn't matter. It's Walker's to lose.

Anybody who had Walker is the ScoobyPlay 50/50 drawing, collect your winnings.

Who was it you assured us was going to win all through 2010-2012? Huckabee?

I just like to tweak you nervous nellies once in awhile Kep. :D However, more to your point I like winning, and therefore backing the strongest horse.

joecct, I'm sure nostalgia has a lot to do with it, but it this case do we think Hillary would be much different than Bill policy wise (in fact that's the main complaint of the Kepler-types) or Jeb different than W (I can already see tax cuts for the rich and he came out in favor of troops on the ground in Iraq again)? In fact nostalgia in this case might be a reasonable proxy for what would happen for the most part. Obviously Hillary isn't going to sign a DOMA, but Jeb could double down on NCLB for example.

I don't think I picked one until Romney got nominated. I wanted them to pick someone who reflects their true values.

An excellent point. That's why Paul Ryan was the natural VP choice last time. His budget is where the GOP was/still is, so make him part of the ticket.

This time around, Ted Cruz is where the GOP is. Small wonder he's surging in polls right now (yes, yes its early). Plus, he has the trump card no one else has, which is when he causes a govt shutdown in the weeks before the first primary and gets gold plated press coverage from the right. Pundidiots, who again should be noted tend to be 60-70 year old white males, still think the country wants the scion of a famous family, WASPy, super wealthly patrician image that Jeb Bush projects because that's what sold 30 years ago. The base wants confrontation, not moderation. Witness the fury over the backtracking by Pence in Indiana on the Right to Discriminate law. Bet your bottom dollar Cruz would have stuck to his guns (literally  ;))

Sure, he was a great VP choice. But, Romney wasn't a great choice for the head of the party. Yes, he's got all the Rich qualifications with disdain for the little man built in but he wasn't insane on Health Care, and Civil Rights like most of the GOP.

I'd say now the biggest street cred for your Republican running for Prez is to be in favor of farming out US Foreign Policy to the Prime Minister of Israel. Makes it easy to have a foreign policy position for the election.

I distinctly remember your gloom and doom routine, but I guess it was just assuring us that Romney had it in the bag.

A Young Earth Creationist Neo-Con would check all the boxes. Science hasn't yet developed one, but Cruz is closing in on the target.

Exactly. I remember when Mittens got asked that question and blew it. The correct answer is the US Military is on call for Netanyahu to use bomb anyone at anytime regardless of whether its in the US strategic interest.

Having nominated two so called moderates (by Attila the Hun standards) I find it questionable that the GOP will nominate yet another one. Recall the Bush II ran as a Christian Conservative/small gubmint type and was really good at dog whistle politics. That's tough to replicate especially given how his Presidency turned out.

I dunno, the family is good at it in general. Daddy was a New England blueblood who suddenly acquired a Texas drawl when he entered national politics.

The Bush family may actually be the perfect symbol of the GOP for the last 50 years. Silver spoon elitists who (1) rode Reagan's coattails into initial power, (2) faked aw shucks herpa-derp sensibilities to get votes, while (3) aggressively serving their own class interests redistributing American public assets upwards to the 1% and (4) riding the tip of Wahhabist Saudis leading directly to 9/11 after which they (5) got us into a war that was devastating for everyone but themselves, all the while (6) wrecking our economy and nearly plunging the world into a second Great Depression.

Just replace the elephant with the Bush family tree.
