What was it, 9 of 10 GOP prez candidates said they didn't believe evolution last time? I guarantee every one of them was lying, unless Santorum was there -- he actually is that dumb.

got to meet him when i was working for mrs hillman in the pittsburgh rnc office back in 1992. he is :D

Won't affect the next two elections, but interesting nonetheless. .
@conncarroll: Florida has passed New York and is now the country's third most populous state http://census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2014/cb14-232.html

I've been trying to find a map showing the gain and loss of EVs by state since 1960 (or thereabouts). Surprisingly hard to find (I had hopes for Dave Leip's wonderful Atlas).

Some cases (1960 --> 2012, change)

NY 45-->29, -16
PA 32-->20, -12
MI 20-->16, -4 (I'd have guessed a bigger change)

FL 10-->29, +19
CA 32-->55, +23
TX 24-->38, +14

This should help the GOP with the gender gap.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Run-HRC? Honest Injun? Gott Mitt Himmel? RyanRubioCruzCrud?

Looks like Jeb Bush is going all in. If it's Bush vs. Clinton again, this time it'll be even more clear that the (R) is more liberal than the (D) considering Common Core (federal eduction) and amnesty. Will be interesting to see if that swings any states or if people would just vote the letter as I expect.

Bush is not more liberal than Clinton. So you can stop trotting that out there.

Although the name is a mixed bag, for Jeb things are swinging back to the GOP for a cycle, international conditions are shaping up for him, he' moderate enough to pull it off, his family is entirely Hispanic, he's Florida, he's smart, and while not being totally nuts. Nothings over til its over. But good chance Jeb Bush is our next president.

He's a charter signator for PNAC. I don't think the people of this country, whatever their attention span, are anxious to bring the Neocons back into power after the disasters of 2000-08. The question is how much trouble will he have with the primaries. That connection is going to split the libertarian / militarist division on the far right wide open.

I'm not saying he can't pull it off -- like Hillary he has more money than God and more connections than Wilt Chamberlain, and FNC is going to be his personal drool caddy. But I think it's an uphill fight. This is going to look a lot like the infighting between the establishment and the Tea Party insurgency. Great theater, anyway.

just kill us now if Jeb is indeed president in 16

Re: Campaign 2016 - Run-HRC? Honest Injun? Gott Mitt Himmel? RyanRubioCruzCrud?

Jeb Bush has as much chance of being elected President as Chris Christie: not much because they both won't make it through the primaries.

Right leaning voters aren't going to carry the water for an illegal immigration lovin', Common Core advocatin', wealthy patrician related to the last two GOP Presidents that the base now hates. What Jeb Bush does is make the candidacies of Christie, Perry, Walker etc obsolete, as he's the defacto nominee from the Corporate wing of the party. Problem is the social conservative wing has the numbers, and the energy. After getting stuck with McCain and Romney the last two times, they're going to want their own guy. Whether that's Rand Paul or Ted Cruz I don't know, but Jeb Bush is a guy who sounds good to pundidiots who most likely have a long term relationship with his family, but nobody else.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Run-HRC? Honest Injun? Gott Mitt Himmel? RyanRubioCruzCrud?

I disagree they won't make it through the primary. Romney did. When push comes to shove the GOP ALWAYS nominates establishment and NEVER puts their money where their mouth is. They always put their money where their money is.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Run-HRC? Honest Injun? Gott Mitt Himmel? RyanRubioCruzCrud?

Random thoughts: its not that the Bush name now smells like flowers. Its that he ticks the boxes and no white guy ticks the monumental GOP demographics box better than Jeb. Heck, he's all over education...says he visited 200 FL schools (bet we hear that one no less than 100 times over the coming months). I also think he's got a different enough personality from W that folks will think...naw, he's not a spending crazed neocon. The establishment will love him. He sometimes even has me fooled until someone calls him liberal and then he turns into a total hole.

Within the GOP, who's there to compete with him? The question is whether the tea party can take him down. I learned long ago that one shouldn't bet on any candidate, but just sayin'.

Christie's has no shot in the primary and none in the election. The right doesn't respect him and he's from the NE...nuff said. IMO.

He's a great candidate on paper. His problem is making it through the primary. Few people on the right care that he's visiting schools. Homeschooling is correct answer in the primaries. That's an "appeal to the wider electorate" general election theme. The name "Bush" is also toxic on the far right, the center, and the left. Only old rich guys and neo-cons want to see George W Bush's 3rd term IMHO.

Scooby, normally I agree, but the knucks' have swallowed some bitter medicine the last two primaries. I'm thinking they want their own people, and this time their candidates will be well funded (Cruz, Paul) and not fringe lunatics (Sanitarium, Huckleberry).

I think Perry is more from the gun totin', woman hatin'; book burnin' theocon wing than the corporate con wing, though he's definitely through-and-through corrupt.

The GOP has mastered imagery. Reagan was an Orange County toastmaster who sold himself as a cowboy sage. Bush Senior was a Kennebunkport grandee who sold himself as a bellicose Texan. Dubya was a pampered date rapist who sold himself as a straight talkin' Everyman. It doesn't matter what Jeb really is -- the GOP will focus group and package their guy as whatever empty caricature is appealing to the lunkhead in the street.

If Bush43 was a date rapist, where does that leave the Kennedy clan?

30 years ago? Sure. Now? They've been outvoted in 5 of the last 6 Presidential elections, so something ain't working.

In 4 of those 5 the Dems ran an extraordinarily charismatic candidate.

The Dems haven't elected an uncharismatic nominee since LBJ. And Hillary aint charismatic.

During that period the GOP managed to drag Nixon's carcass (twice), Bush Senior, and Bush Junior's gibbering chimp face (twice) across the finishing line.

Their Madison Avenue guys are better than our Madison Avenue guys.
