Republican voters aren't interested in an immigrant family success story if the family isn't from Europe.

I think it's just the opposite: Rubio will get more support from Republicans who are desperate to deny their racism. Witness Cain's little rise last time and all the sad memes that the GOP was now magically absolved of all taint of 40 years of aggressive racial bigotry because they were backing "one of the good ones." Leaving aside that the sort of identity politics that underlies that way of thinking is itself the height of racism.

There is no way the Republican ticket will be two white males.

Hispanics (Trump), Asians (Bush), Muslims (Carson 1st and foremost but everybody else), Blacks (everybody), Women. They're running out of groups to scapegoat. I'd be shocked if a lilly white, elderly party nominates a Cuban for President. Hell, the House and Senate can't even find room for a woman in its leadership ranks so they had to create a no-show position for one. The GOP of 30 years ago would have gone out of their way to do as you suggest. Now? They can't be bothered.

The second that's no longer true, the GOP is going to turn so suddenly and so far that the social cons and theocons will be lucky not to break their necks. The question isn't if, it's when. Even if GOP leaders and staffers are innumerate, their paid consultants can count, and any day now the lines on the graph are going to cross. Given the demographics of this country, if we're not there yet it's a matter of years, not decades.

The RNC is toothless and has lost control of the party. If it hadn't we'd be looking at Jebbers! in 1st place, not 5th behind Trump, Carson, Fiorina, and whoever else is the flavor of the week. The Nutter Caucus is pulling >50% of the vote right now. GOP primary voters want a return to a time when you could call for policies that put minorities/gays/women in their place, and you could say it loud and proud. That's what Trump does. That's what Carson does. Gee whiz, small wonder why they're running 1-2 in the race right now. All the more moderate people have left, and until the next SCOTUS ruling corporations can't vote.

Every week its "this is the week the old guard wins it back" according to you and the media and yet every week it is anyone BUT the old guard that does anything. (and they often shoot themselves in the foot as well) There is no Romney this time, the fact is they are all different shades of stupid.

Not to mention you really think a party that hates the idea of minorities and quotas to help them are going to nominate someone that their own followers will know got the job because he is a minority? Not a chance...

I've said (1) we're still very early and (2) the RNC Platform is not a suicide pact, and the suits who run things are going to make sure the donors are happy. That means the nomination will come down to an establishment nominee with a gender or racial token running mate. How we get from here to there is a mystery, but I have a feeling it's going to be boring.

I'm not responsible for what the media is saying. The media, after all, never mentions Bernie without being patronizing and/or dismissive, and I think that's a mistake.
