Campaign 2016 - People lie the most after a hunt, during a war or before an election

Re: Campaign 2016 - People lie the most after a hunt, during a war or before an elect

Awesome.

The Rubio "staffer" by the way is his national campaign manager.

On a side note, that's a good destination for a sleazy "strategy" junket. Plenty of $500/night hotel rooms, expensive golf, and no worries about drunk drivers.

Re: Campaign 2016 - People lie the most after a hunt, during a war or before an elect

They all fell for that overhead video and the stills.

Whynt you be surprised they fall for a doctored abortion filmette

Oh the knuckledraggers? Yeah I guess that doesn't surprise me. I was more talking about the general electorate.

Re: Campaign 2016 - People lie the most after a hunt, during a war or before an elect

Two things from this.

First, good to see Hillary defending PP and putting the GOP's idiocy squarely in context.

Second, she should wear white all the time. That is by far the most warm and human she's ever looked.

For the record, the video in question is here and the scene in question is roughly the 6:00 mark: http://thefederalist.com/2015/09/17...-parenthood-and-its-media-allies-deny-exists/

Can't say the context behind the scene, I've heard somewhere it was a stillborn, but providing this just for information's sake.

Edit: More on stillborns used for still photos later in the video: http://thinkprogress.org/health/2015/08/20/3693340/planned-parenthood-video-photos/

Hillary does better when the focus is on issues and not her warm and fuzzy personality. ;)

Seriously though, if I'm running the GOP, I'm not sure what they're thinking. You know the Dems are going to run against you with a War Against Women theme. So in reponse you.....1) call only women to testify in high profile public hearings (Clinton, Lerner, Power, etc), and 2) launch legislative crusades against Planned Parenthood, legal abortion for rape victims, contraception, etc. Nothing like playing right into their hands.

They're trapped. The leadership is terrified of a coup by the Cruz nuts, so they feed them this stuff and hope they'll be appeased. But every time they feed them that segment gets louder and more emboldened.

If the GOP had real leadership they would go to the insurgent Members, break a broom handle in front of them and say, "we're gonna have try outs." Reward the ones who jump before a certain day; after that, destroy everyone who is left: no more committee positions, every bill they bring gets trapped forever in committee, and all "earmark by another name" goodies for their constituents get stripped from existing and future legislation. The party has a lot of power to enforce discipline; hitherto they've been afraid to exercise it because they don't want Cruz et al. to lead the peasants with pitchforks against them, but after having their majority p1ssed away by these yokels they need the balls to act. The TP caucus as an independent power center would not have lasted 60 days under LBJ, let alone 60 months.

But all this is still a temporary fix. The Republican national establishment is learning what the Democratic national establishment once learned: farm animals are useful for heavy labor but you don't keep them in the house or they sh-t all over everything.

If all those American Catholics are telling the pope to pizz off that they ok with abortion, why does the Republican Party think that's a winner?

Interesting issue the Republican Party has. The issue is a winner when it comes to winning their primaries, and a loser in the general election.

Wait, are you allowed to make this reference?

Latest CNN poll:

Trump dumps 8 points, Jeb picks up none, and Walker is now polling below 1%.

You left out the Dem results from the same poll... ;)

Anyway, now we're adding exclusions based on religion to public life, as several GOP candidates won't accept a Muslim President?!? Is the Klan now officially running the Republican party?

It will get worse before it gets better. These people were always out there, hiding under rocks, silently passing their hatreds from inbred generation to generation. The removal of gatekeepers from media has brought them all out in the light of day. It's jarring, but at least sane, normal people now know that these cretins are among us, in large enough numbers to matter, electorally. On the flip side, these people are really feeling their oats and wallowing in their discovery of each other. This is peak derp. But like any disease, a combination of quarantine and innoculation will limit the contagion.

There will never be a cure -- we brought this down from the trees with us. But at least when it's out there in the open it can't ambush us.

It will be interesting to see whether Bernie can move the national numbers are make inroads with women and people of color between now and the primaries. Every time he speaks he attracts more people, and his message could even pull some of the anti-establishment sentiment that until now has only had Republican hobbyist candidates to choose from. The debates are big, and even if the corporate media will be pulling out all the stops to marginalize him short of actually silencing him they will not be able to stop people from hearing what he says.

IA and NH are retail politics and Bernie can and perhaps will win them, but he's going to need to be much closer in the national polls to win the primaries that come afterwards and withstand Hillary's enormous money advantage.

Bernie's challenge is to attact more than students and hardcore libs. He'll do this by fleshing out his proposals a bit more. For example, free college tuition is going to play real well when attracting students to a rally on campus. How he pays for that is how you get the rest of the people on board. I'm a pretty liberal guy, but even I care if he plans on paying for it by having hedge fund/Romney types flowing their earnings through the tax rates the rest of us pay for example which I'm all for and could get enacted into law with a Dem Congress, or if he plans on raising the top tier rate to 90% which has no prayer of being enacted.

That WSJ hit piece on his proposals is a good example. He's going to need to answer that question a little better than he did, which was basically to say they're wrong because he'll generate savings and he'll get back to us about what those savings are.

We have yet to have a Jewish president. How about a non Christian ticket of a Jew (Sanders) and a Muslim (Ellison)??

Hillary reminds me of Tom Dewey. Stiff, out of touch, and the ability to appear at a farmer's fair in a 3 piece suit. Both were anointed. Both tripped.

I agree with all of this. Just by being there Bernie's already cleared the first hurdle: getting inequality and how the economy is rigged against the middle class and poor back on the political agenda. As long as you have people talking about the real issues and the practical results of things like the Bush tax cuts, it is possible to resist and even reverse the power of wealth to distort democracy.

That's why the first tool the usual suspects always use is to try to shut down the conversation completely with cries of "communism" or "class warfare." They know they'll lose a logical argument on the merits, so they inject emotional and irrational distractions to push people back to their battle stations. They succeeded for so long that for two decades the political spectrum presented by the establishment media ran from the very farthest rightwing fringe to the center, with the entire left blocked out as "thar be dragons!"

Bernie's job is to get his core people talking to the unconvinced but convincable. Hes got a huge group of people doing outreach but they are going to have to stop talking to each other and start talking to people of good will who are willing to listen but who, by default, are supporters of Clinton or perhaps even one of the saner Republicans. The good news is he's got quite a lot of time, and the debate schedule actually works well for him because it gives him automatic boosts in exposure about when he needs them. The rest is up to him (and us, his supporters).
