Campaign 2016 - People lie the most after a hunt, during a war or before an election

Re: Campaign 2016 - People lie the most after a hunt, during a war or before an elect

Which requires that an investigation actually be done or that a woman be believed that it happened, both of which rarely happen. There's a huge backlog of untested rape kits that are just sitting around. In the thousands dating back to the 80s for this one instance Pregnancy shouldn't be considered a punishment for sex. Contraception isn't always available and education is purposely poor to teens/young adults leading to more unwanted pregnancies. (Thanks to conservative sex ed requirements)

Rape kits going untested don't determine whether or not the women were raped - the vast majority of time (could be some faked it, but those are rare). The rape kits are used to get the DNA and give a mortal lock on whose DNA is in the victimized women.

Yes, but it's a symptom of how rape is treated as unimportant to follow up on by authorities. Considering the frothing at the mouth anti-abortion fervor of republicans, if they can't ban it outright, they'll use any restriction based on "rape" to immediately come with the caveat that there be some kind of conviction or proof of who did it.

Which will take 9 months or more to get to trial.

Abortion was a great issue for the GOP until people started asking how far they wanted to go. IMHO more than half of Republicans are either in the Todd Akin camp (women who get pregnant when claiming rape secretly enjoyed it) or have a what's done is done so left make the victim carry the rapist's child attitude. Obviously both ideas are barbaric and Talibanesque, but a staple of a major US political party. Not sure how they finesse this for the general election.

Fade to Black, you must work for CNN. ;) GOP has little hope of winning NV given their war on Hispanics, or NH which really hasn't been close in recent years and which withstood good GOP midterm in 2014 (both gov and Sen re-elected). Even in your highly favorable analysis they still lose 270-268. Beyond that though, you're giving the political heavyweights of Jebbers!, Cruz, Rubio etc almost all of the swing states (FL, OH, NC, CO) or labeling them too close to call (IA, NV, NH) while giving the Dems exactly 1 (VA). Is Reagan's ghost running?

So, if I understand correctly...this is a conservative rag. And they are claiming that this guy who's been doing right wing stuff by wearing all this anti Obama stuff and making derogatory comments about Muslims is actually left wing and anti tea party? How does that work? If that's true he's very cleverly slamming his own position at every turn.

Gee. It would stand to reason that Carson would be a scientist.

In a speech delivered in 2012, Ben Carson said the big bang theory was part of the “fairy tales” pushed by “high-faluting scientists” as a story of creation.

Similarly, Carson, a noted creationist, said he believed the theory of evolution was encouraged by the devil.

I guess not.

Sad.

Obviously, you can't rush these things. After all it might be one of those almost insignificant occurrences of someone lying.

Sad.

The William Shockley Effect: Shockley helped invent the transistor, then spent his declining years peddling pseudo-science that blacks are, genetically, intellectually inferior.

Moral: a scientist careful and brilliant in her own field can be utterly irrational and idiotic in another field.

That's sad. And I lose respect for anything that they do in their field when they do it.

I think it should give us all pause about the effect of emotion and belief on our own reality. If people with such sensitive and powerful rational apparatus can be muddled by their emotional beliefs, we all have to be that much more careful.

Our brains did not evolve to give us truth, just survivability, and apparently the ability to imagine a fictitious world in which our emotions and beliefs aren't challenged can, sometimes, give us better odds. It makes sense to assume that our brain evolved to give us the closest it could get to truth about things we can do something about it. Not seeing the tiger because it's perturbing isn't going to help us pass on our genes.

But if we can't do anything about something depressing like, say, the universe not caring about us or death being the guaranteed last stop train is now out of service, it's not hard to imagine the brain being enticed to play pretend in ways that help us roll out of bed the next day rather than just giving up. Or, I dunno, pretending the sky god color coded us by value like poker chips.

It was an experiment, not a prediction. My main point is that the GOP has to win Florida and Ohio, or it's three in a row for the Dems.

If you want to accuse me of "just asking questions", then OK I'm guilty for once. :p

The theory is that it's called a plant. You tell people all they want to hear, and then when the timing is right, do a 180 and show your true colours. Most call it "campaigning". Look at Donald Trump, he's a master at it. And people don't remember he funded the Clintons in the 90's.

The biggest issue they're bringing up, though, is that this is the exact same story as "Joe the Plumber" from 2008, but there's no poutrage from the MSM this time around.
