Campaign 2016 Part XXIII: The Penultimate Thread

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXIII: The Penultimate Thread

Those folks were locked in already, and they aren't enough. The question is: Is this enough to swing some of the independents/undecideds.

Doubtful. Everyone is more or less locked in. The only people who aren't would be Donald trump leaners who have misgivings about actually voting for him. True left-leaning moderates and independents decided over the last month that he's a threat to the nation.

Centrist righties have likely made up their mind to not vote for him already. Those that haven't likely wouldn't have voted for her in the first place.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXIII: The Penultimate Thread

Same as before. I have a hard time calling any Hillary email "mishandled" when it's apparently taken the FBI this long to find what Russian hackers found from the server she "should have been using" 18 months ago. Asking her anything other than tips on how she did it is nothing more than partisan political BS.

But given the glee of some of the Definitely Not Trump Supporters here, I can't wait for the proportional reaction when they discover another candidate isn't just under investigation, but actually going to trial shortly after the election. Or I don't know. Maybe the whole rational analysis of both sides thing only applies to threatening to lynch an African-American in the name of irreverent Comedy. I'm still not clear on how that works.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXIII: The Penultimate Thread

Odd?
How about horrific?
I won't go all the way to catastrophic.

As long as Trump can avoid another "Operation: FOOTBULLET" (I'll take the under) this, even if it is a per diem overage, dominates the news cycle for the week prior to the election.

The GOP might actually have screwed themselves on this. Even if there's anything there, they have been screeching about Hillary for so long that they may get Trump's chicken little hand-ed to them.

It's perfect for the medial though, who need a narrative where the race closes.

And t will be funny to watch the Republicans, who were balls deep in "the media is corrupt and a sham," now calling attention to media reports as "vital investigative journalism."

So the FBI obtained more emails that may or may not be significant and they don't know when they'll be able to say one way or the other. Are we really going to spend the next two weeks acting as though that news, in and of itself, amounts to a bombshell development?

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXIII: The Penultimate Thread

Other reporters are reporting that Pete Williams said (yes I know that sounds Ferris Bueller-y) the FBI found an additional device in the course of a separate investigation and so are reviewing emails there, but the emails are NOT from Hillary.

Eleven days from the election and now this.

We, the electorate, are being played. By whom, for what end, we'll never know.

(The cynical dude in my office says the FBI just figured out they'd have a lot more "fun" under Reichsmarschal Trump.)

They won't. But we'll all go deaf from them crying, "COMEY! COMEY! COMEY!"

Are you kidding? Of course. The media needs something to be breathless about.

So how in the world could a non-Hillary email on (presumably) a non-Hillary device be a problem?

Who said there is necessarily a problem? As part of their original investigation, they were supposed to have reviewed all emails. They found new ones that in some way may be tangentially related, so they have to do their due diligence and review those too before they can again say they are done. For all we know they could be more of Podesta's risotto recipes and this is a bureaucratic non-issue.

OK, maybe I should've put problem in double-quotes. But Podesta's risotto still sucks.

Most likely not...he isnt going to add anyone because of this he again needs to hope this gets the liberals to stay home.

The last time something like this broke he jumped up to what...44%? That isnt going to be enough...

French Rage is right...as of now there is nothing out there that this has anything to do with a scandal...just that additional information was found which will lead them to look into it further. There is no news really...though we know the media abhors a vacuum :D

And the ("rigged") media will jump on anything to make it more interesting and possibly closer, rather than it being a foregone conclusion.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXIII: The Penultimate Thread

From what I read, 3 e-mails were found on Anthony Weiner's  phone. That's the separate investigation. While Comey certainly had to disclose the fact that the FBI looked at 3 additional e-mails to make sure nothing funny was on them, he didn't need to disclose that in the manner that he did. Come Nov 9th, he should be fired on the spot by Obama and not be allowed to stay on until Inauguration Day.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXIII: The Penultimate Thread

Wow.
Just three hours into this and the conspiracy is out there that Comey did this so the media focuses on his big ball of nothing instead of Assange's Wikileaks emails next week.

This site really needs a facepalm emoticon. Assume one located here.

This is a joke right? (it is so hard to tell these days)
