Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

But Scoob, if they followed American law in what they did, they followed the law.

Don't hate the playah ... fix the game.

You have an entire party and an entire (Koch) lobbying infrastructure that has interest in fixing the game. Ethics and standards are supposed to mean something. Look at the housing crisis from '08 as the crown jewel. People knew something was wrong. People knew what was going to happen. Instead of putting a stop to it they let it happen and got rich off of it. And no one went to jail. Martha Stewart did but no one for the housing crisis.

At some point ethical standards have to mean something.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

Gore, Romney, Bush, Trump*, all had rich daddies and made it during private sector careers. < shrug >

*made it, lost it, who knows what now ...

Uh, Bush AND Romney's parents were in public service as well. (and that goes for HW Bush, who's dad was Prescott Bush- who was a US senator. HW spend a lot of time in the CIA.

So if H had money from his parents.... the only one could have been realistically from Prescott who had some money while HW served in WWII. HW was only in private service for a little while- he was public from '64-'92.

Hugh Rodham did well, too- so it's plausible that Hillary got money from him, too.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

You know Republicans seem to make a big deal of her making money...is it cause she is rich and refuses to support your party? Why do you care so much?

You're ignoring certain facts that create the issue. The Clintons used their position in government to enhance their income, to the tune of well over $100MM in extra income, all obtained since 2000 when they declared bankruptcy after the Ken Starr investigations. Bill and Hillary capitalized on being public servants. If there was ever a case where people should be outraged that the oligarchy is stacking the deck, it would be theirs. Yes, they had wealth before Bill took the Governor's office in Arkansas, but they were subsequently wiped out - they publicly declared themselves to be destitute when Bill left office in 2001. Since then, Hillary has spent most of her time either holding elected office or appointed to other government offices. Bill gave speeches, earning speech money from being POTUS and doing philanthropic work with GHWB for a good chunk of time.

Most presidents give speeches for large sums of cash after leaving office, but few - if any - have reached the heights the Clintons have. They're truly turned the POTUS into a cash cow.

Had a Republican done the same, would the liberal groups of this board and nation sit by quietly? No, they would not. Bills and investigations would have been proposed and demonstrations held.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

I was at an event last night where the keynote speaker was Ari Fleischer, W's press secretary. Here's what I took out of it. What an extremely intelligent man. After listening to him, my opinion of W's presidency is changing. He told us things that we never would have known about W and his administration, and how often times Bush and Cheney were at odds with each other.

But she was "dead broke" in 2000, so Hillary's daddy's money was gone (if there was any).

Wait, if she was broke, does that make her as bad as "bankruptcy" Trump?

Or, she's now worth $111 million in just 16 years, starting from ZEE-ROW. Wow, can she put that amazing fiscal skill to work for the US economy? :)

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

D's would be more credible in HRC's defense of her fortune if they didn't spend 100's of $millions on negative ads attacking Romney for his connections to evil wall street and corrupt financial institutions.

Romney ran a finance and investment company and provided many services in the industry for decades to get the bulk of his money. I imagine the R's just want to know exactly what "services" HRC provides for her cash. :p

Those sneaky Clintons are at it again! Oh, if only somebody would care to take the time to look into them even a little bit, all their evil misdeeds would be so obvious. If only.

Hillary released eight years of tax returns. If you care that much, you could figure it out.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

I'm only intrigued at how a 30 year public servant can accumulate such a fantastic net worth. She's probably really smart at ... cattle futures.

Then again, at least we know her number. We have no idea if Trump would take the oath and then file Chapter < n > bankruptcy.

So then you spendf your time questioning how other members of Congress...many of whom have been in public service, are rich as well?

Keep trying though...

(you do realize public service /= poor right)

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

So if Bonnie Parker and Clyde C. Barrow would have paid taxed on their accumulated worth it's all good? ;)

Not sayin', just sayin'.

3 out of 10...well below average trolling. Would not read again :p

I do have a pretty good grasp of my reps in Congress and how wealthy they are and how they made it; specifically,

Rep Cramer isn't wealthy by any stretch (I knew him when he was a low-level state minion); Sen Heitkamp's money is because her husband is a surgeon; Sen Hoeven was a banker.

None of them have rolled up a $111 million wad in 30 years of public service (though it seems Hoeven is giving it a run).

It's nice to have reporters: https://www.sayanythingblog.com/entry/north-dakotas-senators-are-both-millionaires/

Stupid on multiple levels. Reagan in fact got an unprecedented (at the time) $2M payout to go speak in Japan post presidency. One can image him earning a lot more money had he not gotten too ill to keep giving speeches. I do not recall any bills, investigations, or demonstrations against that.

Its not either Clintons' fault that people want to hear them speak and are willing to pay to do so. Maybe if Republican pols did a better job once in office, they too could make money on the lecture circuit. However, the point is a good one that all of the Clintons' income is public knowledge since they released their tax returns going back 30 years, AND they paid the going rate on that income, unlike our Republican friends.

Did they do it legally? Who cares how they made their money? I dont carry water for the Clintons (I supported Obama and Bernie) why would I care how they were able to turn their name into money? I wont care when Drumpf makes millions off Drumpf TV either. I dont care that Sarah Palin has turned her stupidity into (most likely) millions. That is part of the game...

I will believe these "concerns" when they turn them in on themselves. Plenty of GOPers (and Dems) are rigging the game a lot worse than those evil Clintons.

Ok so again, look at her taxes if you care so much it is a matter of public record. Doesnt quite fit your concern trolling though does it ;)

It was 30 years of tax returns.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

Apparently, as no one has denied it, Trump has been audited continually, and as far as I know he's never been charged with any sort of income tax evasion. To suggest that in itself is crooked is disingenuous regardless if he himself is or not.

The point on HRC is that the waters around her are roiling with pay-for-play accusations. Certainly there's no specific smoking gun, but the optics are TERRIBLE. Combine those optics with her fortune raised from a life of public service and it raises questions that no one in the campaign wants to answer.

On the Bush's money... The Bush's are rich. The Clinton's have become wealthy. If the Clinton's had Bush money they'd slit their own wrists. (albeit with a diamond-encrusted steak knife, I suppose.)

Lastly, what are Dems going to use to deflect once they don't have Donald J. Trump to kick around anymore?

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

Donald Trump: All hats, no cattle.

According to the Federal Election Commission filings, Donald Trump's presidential campaign has spent $1.8 million on polling from June 2015 through September of this year (the most recent month for which data are available). The report also lists $3.2 million spent on hats.

Handy invoked Lou Dobbs' pro-Trump ravings yesterday. I see and raise ... a Rush.
