Their best (only?) hope at this point would be Pence. Pence would keep most of the Trump vote because he was Trump's pick; and Pence may actually get some of the GOPers Trump chased away to come back. Pick anyone that Trump beat in the primaries and Trump's base bolts.

There's a way for Pence, in my scenario above, to really make this a mess. Choose Carly Fiorina as his Veep --> Female. Outsider. Business person.

Agree but when has the GOP ruling elite acted with any ounce of common sense?

Agreed, which is why I think this election is going to be worse for the GOP than a lot of people realize even now. There's some talk that the #'s have crated for GOP Senators over the weekend.

By Friday we should have an accurate picture of how bad it truly got...if Ryan is telling his people to fend for themselves he is obviously seeing numbers that make the latest poll look right on point.

BTW everyone watch John Oliver if you havent...he is so on point it is perfection!

I hope so. The best news would be that the House comes into play. If that happens then the GOP will do everything it can to save the House while the Presidency and the Senate go to the Democrats.

I still will be sad because Gowdy and Chaffetz will still have subpoena power and will continue to investigate nonsense. Paul Ryan will still be able to be #3 in line to the Presidency and pass his BS budgets. But, at least Mitch McConnell will be nothing.

I think that is what Paul Ryan is hoping for. If he could "Ditch the Itch", make "McConn all gone", it's more GOP power for him.

Maybe Thune would move up in the GOP Senate ranks, and that wouldn't be all bad. (Did I just say something nice about a South Dakotan? :eek: )

Jeff Sessions is Not The Brightest Bulb

"Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) has somehow found it appropriate to defend Republican nominee Donald Trump’s remarks about “grabbing her by the *****,” telling an interviewer after the debate that he didn’t think that constituted “sexual assault” and that he’d already apologized for “very improper language.”

But the Weekly Standard didn’t stop there, pressing him on the issue: “But beyond the language, would you characterize the behavior described in that as sexual assault if that behavior actually took place?” the Weekly Standard asked.

“I don’t characterize that as sexual assault. I think that’s a stretch. I don’t know what he meant—” replied Sessions.

“So if you grab a woman by the genitals, that’s not sexual assault?”

“I don’t know. It’s not clear that he—how that would occur” finished the man who was once the Attorney General in the state of Alabama and nearly became a federal judge until his appointment was “scuttled by a history of racism.”

BTW according to 538 in the Polls Only Hillary is 83.6% to win...not Now Cast (that is 87.7%) but Polls Only! So much for Drumpf winning the debate ;)
