Campaign 2016 Part XX: Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XX: Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right.

Give Portman credit. He's run a good race. If she wins the WH there's little chance the GOP retains the Senate.

It's about 60/40 right now -- that is hardly "little chance." The Senate races have been decoupled from the Presidential race because the latter is a popularity contest, not an ideological struggle. There doesn't have to be any necessary correlation between a vote for Senate and a vote for President this time. Heck, Trump doesn't even have a political philosophy beyond "Hulk smash!"

Clinton needs a Senate majority to accomplish anything. A GOP Senate means complete gridlock, more executive orders, more ginned up investigations, and the Freedom Caucus fiddling while the republic burns.

Then they have to win EVERY other contested seat, NC, FL, IN, NV, OH, AZ. That's asking a lot if the top of the ticket is sinking like a stone.

Toomey has a big lead. He's another ********.

Looks like Pence being good just highlights how bad Trump is. Down goes AZ in NowCast. NE-2 and ME-2 are the next dominoes. then it's a long way to GA.

The second debate is a Town Hall and is 3 days away. I think it is fairly safe to say that Trump absolutely must either hit it out of the park or poison the hot sauce Hillary keeps in her purse.

That picture looks to rosy for me. I hope it's accurate.

I still don't know if I buy it. Especially Iowa and Arizona.

If it's true, what would the skunk and double-skunk lines be? 336-202 and 403-135?

Certainly a new poll showing Hillary up in AZ is not a bad thing for her, but a single data point in no way makes it a certainty. The fact things are to the point where some polls are showing the state switching, though, says something about the overall state at this moment, but there's still a month of ball left to play.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XX: Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right.

The now cast is what would happen if today were election day. The polls only and polls plus models are better predictors of what will happen in a month.

It's how things are frozen now. I've already said I think we're at the top of Hillary's latest arc and that any moment I expect her to start eroding again.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XX: Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right.

I'm not counting on AZ unless I see Fossil McCain in trouble as well, because that would indicate a total repudiation of Trump and any of his enablers. Simply put there's more of them than us and the older retiree population is completely into Trump's BS. Beyond that I'd expect GA to be a closer target than AZ. Seemingly more educated and urban and with a reliable block of non-white voters (African Americans in this case) that turns out in Presidential years. If all goes right I'd like to see NC become more like VA and GA become more like NC.

Yes, that is the progression.

Likewise, NM --> NV --> AZ

Not sure screwed is the right adjective to use regarding Ayotte. RCP has it pretty close.

You say that like it is a bad thing. Hillary isnt Obama she wont even try to play games if they have another four years of "Do nothing" they will lose everything. This will make the decision to balk on the Supreme Court nomination look like a genius decision.

If the Senate plays hostage Hillary will go Scorched Earth.

Meaning what, exactly? There's not much the President can do if the Congress wants to block her. Rally the people to vote them out, but that's not working. Our system was not built to handle half of the population being committed to sheer, blind obstructionism. Democracy implies an electorate with an interest in the national good.

If they do it they better do it right. Cause if they go to far and the GOP takes over again they'll be given the same power. And those ********s without the anemic checks and balances they have had is more than scorched Earth it's bye bye Earth.

She's in the same boat Downtown Scottie Brown was in 2012. Top of the ticket is going to drag her down. Do people really want a senator who wants to shut down Planned Parenthood but start sending more people to Gitmo? Or one who thinks Trump is a role model for kids? Yikes.
