Campaign 2016 Part XVIII: I'm OK, You're Deplorable

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVIII: I'm OK, You're Deplorable

They tend to be "they both suck so I'm voting for this 3rd party candidate" type presidential voters but are not well educated on the candidate's platforms or knowledgeable of their legislative histories.

I am worried that I know moderates who have bought the false equivalency, and I am worried that our commercial media is unable to declare Trump uniquely unfit and dangerous because god forbid Triscuit sales suffer.

Hillary was not my first choice, but she will be, well, a president, not a combination ringmaster/brownshirt.

This time it's not enough to register a no by not voting for him; we need to cancel every vote for him by supporting the only candidate who can beat him. Please. Use your vote to cancel this guy. VVVNSFW

Listening to my in-laws makes me seriously worry about the election.

They don't like Trump. But they think Hillary is just as bad. They can't say why, but they just don't like her. They have been brainwashed by years of right wing attacks on Hillary. My MIL has been saying for months she didn't think Hillary had the stamina for the job. Her proof? Hillary didn't serve as Secretary of State for the entire Obama administration. I tried to point out that Hillary's length of service as SofS was above average when you look at historical data (when ranked by number of days served as SofS, Hillary is #17, she served slightly longer than Powell and Rice). Now the pneumonia thing has her convinced Hillary couldn't complete her term if elected. My FIL has a bunch of medical problems and has benefited from Obamacare and would generally be helped more by the democratic platform than the republican. He hates Obama (again, couldn't offer a coherent explanation of why Obama is a bad president). They tend to be "they both suck so I'm voting for this 3rd party candidate" type presidential voters but are not well educated on the candidate's platforms or knowledgeable of their legislative histories.

Yeah honestly that is what scares me...people who have no reasons behind their views. It is why I think Hillary needs to be out in front more...when she disappears people "remember" they hate her cause...reasons!

There is the flaw in your argument :p None of us know the floor or ceiling and pretending we do is ridiculous. We will see how it all plays out but I dont buy there is a floor for either of these candidates.

In news that matters: This is a Great Idea!

Who needs national parks anyways...

People hate the EPA and regulation. That's only going to gain him support.

Conservative think tank evaluates Trump's tax plan

tl;dr: Windfall for the rich, adds trillions to the deficit.

It should be noted that the Tax Foundation loves tax cuts, especially on high wage earners. Them hating this is the equivalent of the Cookie Monster turning down a bag of Thin Mints -- there's gotta be something really wrong with it.

Maybe I read it too fast but I don't see where they hate it.

Also, Grover loves it so that's all that matters.

TF generally touts the acceleration of the economy as more than compensating for the shortfalls in revenue caused by tax cuts. In this case they don't even try -- they're talking about $3-4T added to the debt even after taking into consideration pass throughs.

Grover doesn't count cuz he's in ISIS.

Ok, so you read between the lines. I think the electorate Trump is going after (Grover, etc.) is not going to care about the deficit or the debt. They're also going to "not believe" that the debt or deficit will be affected. They will argue that when revenues go up so do the coffers of the Government, and we should be slashing the Government anyway.

It's a no win for Hillary if she points this out. Pointing out Trumps logical fallacies around the tax cuts, debt, and deficits never work with the electorate. They all believe they're going to be rich someday and it's "their" money.

And like most of the Hillary hate, nobody can come up with solid reasons why.

Everyone likes water that is safe to drink and air that is safe to breath. But they *think* they hate the EPA and the regulations that give us clean air and water.

Which regulation is hated? What specific reasons for the Hillary hate? If you ask those simple question, you get no answer.

"Job-killing red tape" is why we have clean water, clean air, non-poisonous food, air bags, building codes, facilities for the disabled, and labor laws.

And it turns out it doesn't kill the jobs after all -- it opens up secondary and tertiary industries to design innovative ways of meeting the regulations.

And the cost to businesses is passed on to the consumer, so even the investors do better, not to mention decreasing their exposure to litigation over faulty / dangerous products and methods.

But it fits on a bumper sticker, so it persists as a slogan.

Ya know, I'm just not sure most Americans "hate" the EPA? No offense, but what gets conjured up in Scooby's mind isn't necessarily the gospel truth. ;)

That's funny because if I do word association with most Americans and I say EPA the response I would get is "Job Killer". Been a pretty fantastic campaign by the GOP. Hell, look at how they got elected to power in Michigan and destroyed Flint's water supply without even so much as an EPA going, you're doing what?

I have no problem with anyone criticizing the vege-fascists and ecoterrorists at PETA, but an oil man should be nowhere near the top of the NPS. That's as dumb as Michigan's governor putting a former BP woman in charge of our DEQ.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVIII: I'm OK, You're Deplorable

This is why I laugh at people who don't think Trump can get elected.

http://www.startribune.com/muslims-...s-business-owner-despite-vandalism/394147471/

A “Muslims Get Out” sign in front of a small-town dining spot in southern Minnesota will remain, the owner (Ruedinger) said Tuesday, despite the business being targeted by what he said was hate-inspired vandalism.

Still Ruedinger claims response from the public to his sign has been overwhelmingly positive.

“My business actually doubled last night,” he said. “One guy came in and said, ‘I’ve never been here, and I will be back.’ ”

He’s heard from people around the country and closer to home, Ruedinger added, from St. Cloud to Cleveland to Kansas City.

“People would be amazed about how many people feel this way,” he said.

The Ruedingers have let their views on local politics be known as well recently. They posted on the business’ Facebook page that they will financially support mayoral and City Council candidates who “share the same core beliefs and values that the majority of this town shares as they will be the ones deciding if you win or lose. Also be willing and ready to always do [what] is in the best interest of the citizens.”

Which, as Kep pointed out, is backwards from reality. I work in one of the EPA regulated industries, working specifically to meet the regulations. One of quite a few just in my company, one of thousands in my industry. It's a good gig.

As for Flint, the massive HUGE irony of the whole debacle- the move to different water was to save money. In the effort to save a few million dollars, it's going to cost the state a few hundred million dollars. Yet R's somehow still have the power in Michigan. Which is where the move to cut funding for education then rears it's ugly head. Smart people are evil.

Here's the thing- we have this recent terrorism in New York, which could be traced to the family being harassed for many years. Is that what they really want? An actual fighting battle?

Make people mad enough, and they go and find a way to get back at you. Anymore, they do it quite violently. Terrible.

Wait a minute here ... I thought Trump didn't have any policies. What are they evaluating. ;)

That said, finally, here is the data on why I can't vote for Trump: all his words never had numbers. Tax Foundation finally has put down numbers, and they don't add up. My head and my gut said they couldn't; here's the proof.

PS - Cookie Monster loves the Peanut Butter Blossoms, not the Thin Mints.
