Campaign 2016 Part XVII: If debates are great theater, I think this one closes early

So, is Clinton throwing the election? Between the "HALF" comment and her health it sure looks like it.

Dear Hillary,

Yes, there is a double standard. Yes, you could lose because of it.

A Voter.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVII: If debates are great theater, I think this one closes e

So the person who speaks to the values of people who work hard, build things and do their own repair work is a trust fund billionaire who has never worked a day in his life and has had dozens of businesses fail putting thousands of people out work? No offense but if that is the case the people in question are dumber than even Kepler gives them credit for. It takes all of 1 minute to research and find out that Drumpf wants nothing to do with those type of people except to fleece them. He represents them about as much as I represent the Neo-Nazi movement.
He doesn't represent them, I agree. But he speaks to their concerns -- personal safety and financial well-being.

The problem with the Kansas theory is that what we are seeing with Trump, we see world-wide. As much as the Koch brothers and Fox News would like to believe it, their reach simply isn't that great.

I understand the appeal for those on the left to call us racists and bigots. It feels good. It creates a sense of moral superiority. It helps distract from the fraud that Obama and the left continue to perpetrate.

I doubt most of Trump's supporters understand where Trump stands on issues like abortion and gay rights. I doubt Trump knows where he stands on these issues.

But immigration is and always has been a hot button issue for the two reasons I stated -- personal security and money. That's why the white Irish and Italian immigrants were as despised as hispanic or arab immigrants. But here is where you guys get distracted.

Trump speaks and 99% of his listeners immediately think, "Right, I don't need any terrorists coming into this country and blowing me up, or trying to take my job." You guys think, "RACISTS!" And I understand. Because there are a small minority of racists in this country who hear Trump speak and immediately agree, for racist reasons and tweet out their support. But it's a tiny fraction.

I don't expect you guys to believe me. You won't until the Democratic Party sees its own Donald Trump, and they will. This is going to be a candidate who speaks to the income inequality and personal safety concerns felt by those at the bottom of the Democratic Party, but he's going to do so not in the manner of a crazy college professor type like Sanders, but a flamboyant like Trump, just a bit more polished. But he'll be saying the same things as Trump.

If I didn't know otherwise, after this weekend you'd have to say yes.

After the video of Mrs. Clinton being hurtled into a (medi-wheels?) van over the weekend by her MD* and her security detail, I'm surprised the "Weekend at Hillary's" memes aren't far better.

*Who takes their MD to a 9/11 Memorial service, other than a very sick person.**
**Is this what Mr. Obama meant when he said, "If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor" ... at your side?***
***Is 9/11 Memorial service support (as in holding you up) by your MD covered by the ACA (aka Obamacare)?

Uh, no. Won't happen.

I'm still pondering the fellow on Meet the Press yesterday who posited that every election since WWII has been won by the more likable person running.

Given that neither have that sewn up, ...

I'm going to the next two down my list of why people vote:
- do they feel safe (see: crime or terrorism), then,
- they vote their pocket book

Scoob, the rumblings are out there. There are (albeit small today) factions in the black and Hispanic communities* who are upset over immigrants coming in and taking jobs. Some day a Democrat will see that part of the party eroding and will have to appease (pander)? to them.

*I wish we could just call those groups what they are: Americans.

I saw that too. I figure the Reality TV Star has the better shot. Hillary will buck the trend if she wins.

It's just another indication that we never learn. We just repeat the same mistakes over and over and over again.

Between the "HALF" comment and her health it sure looks like it.

Scoob, it was the full trifecta:
- the "half" is a "basket of deplorables"
- going on to call those folks "irredeemable"
- the health video

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVII: If debates are great theater, I think this one closes e

Yes, there is a double standard.

Yes there is.

Mr. Clinton can say this, or this. No problem.

Or Mr. Biden can say this. Again, he was misunderstood.

The problem for Mrs. Clinton is that this donor dinner was the first in quite a while open to the press with cameras running. And just like Biden's "clean" comment, some are rushing to excuse it or explain it away.

Trump is getting away with his crap because we've become numb to such lunacy from all quarters. Many thought Hillary better than those three; seems she's just another politician. And this year being another politician is not great because many have been buffaloed into believing the other side is not a politician.

And if we do many of us wont support him/her. Racism is racism no matter who is doing...and deny it all you want to it is racism.

Heck no. I spent most of yesterday reading the WA-PO and NYT. One of those pointed out Hillary's MD with her in photos. I took the creative initiative from there. :D

Numb to travel and immigration bans based on a religious test? Is that what we've come to? Sorry, Trump has been on a whole new level for nominee's.

Numb to stupid statements from politicians. Hillary's "basket" will be gone from the narrative by Wednesday. It'll be her health and the results of Trump's physical.

No. Hillary's Basket is NEVER going away just like Romney's 47% never went away.

So all those Iron Rangers who voted for a black man for President, twice, are now racists?

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVII: If debates are great theater, I think this one closes e

In 1992 I called the race "Mumps (Perot), Measles (Clinton), or Chicken Pox (Bush)". Why? I hear measles are no fun, and mumps can be really bad for you. I've had chicken pox and that's no fun either, but at least I know what to expect. So if you have to pick one, which?

This year it's Mumps (Trump) or Shingles (Clinton) or a complete mystery malady (Johnson/Weld). I say shingles because that's something you've already had but far worse, much more painful, this time around*. Mumps, yup, still really bad for you. So what do you do? I'm rolling the dice on the mystery malady and hoping it's the common cold or a puss-filled abscess on the buttocks of history and not Zika enhanced Mad West Nile Cow Monkey Pox Ebola.

*It's be far better analogy if Bill had been the chicken pox the first time. :D

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XVII: If debates are great theater, I think this one closes e

Silver? I'm still depressed about Garrison Keillor and the wife-beating.

Googling this brings up nothing. Do tell.

Adams has Business Engineer Disease: because you can fix tech problems you start thinking your opinion automatically matters on other topics. Spoiler: it doesn't.

But Card is a minor tragedy. Xenocide and to a lesser extent Ender's Game are written with such a subtle understanding of psychology and such basic goodness and humanity, whereas his bludgeoning, idiotic politics are unworthy of an AEI summer intern.

Edit: Speaker for the Dead is also great.
