Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIX: Escape from the Planet of Debates

When has that stopped anyone...bill yourself out at a 10% discount and make the back end up on expert one on one consulting at $X per hour. Start small and build and in ten years you will be living the sweet life on K Street ;)

Start small and build, and in 10 years you can semi-retire to wherever, while WMc & Partners, Inc. bills your little army of 20 and 30-something "experts" out at $200/hr, but only pays them $20-35/hr. In another, shadier industry, I believe that's called "pimping". ;)

Ah even better!

According to the tD campaign they're not bringing Flowers afterall.

Nothing wrong with Bill's former mistress being there. I mean, Trump's former mistress is at a lot of his campaign events.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIX: Escape from the Planet of Debates

Yes he will. All cabinet appointments are subject to Senate confirmation.

It'd be easier to get him appointed to AG - in fact, it's the best plan for dealing with Cruz, assuming the nightmare of a Trump presidency, and a Republican-led Senate. They'll be rid of him, and he can annoy the hell out of SCOTUS for 4 years. When Trump gets swept out of office after a disaster of a presidency in which he constantly fights with Congress and attempts to issue thousands of executive orders, Cruz's replacement will already be in office, and they'll more or less be rid of him at the federal level.

The AG doesn't argue in front of SCOTUS. That's the solicitor general.

Wow...you took that meatball and smashed over the left-centerfield wall! :D

Last Week Tonight was epic last night. John Oliver is a gift.

#1 thing for tonight. Hillary should watch Gore vs. Bush debate over and over. This debate sets up the same way. She cannot do what Gore did no matter how tempting cause if she does she'll win but lose. Cause it's not really a debate. It's a popularity contest.

Yeah, the key is to look smart and compassionate and unlike Gore she has made social issues one of her primary focuses so she needs to play that up at every opportunity. Talk about equal justice for Blacks, her fight for Women's equality and the greatness of America because of our diversity and caring. She went negative in the ads, everyone knows Drumpf is Little Eichmann already so play up on the hope.

Also, remind the liberals from time to time that the Supreme Court hangs in the balance...

Correct. This election is won or lost on Dem turnout. There aren't enough Trumpsters to put him over the top on his own. The final stretch begins tonight. Win the debate hitting the themes you've described, make sure you help control the post debate spin (Gore's fatal error), and then you and your surrogates particularly President Obama fan out and hit the campaign trial hard. ITS HERO TIME, BABY! :D

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIX: Escape from the Planet of Debates

It's official. In inmates are running the asylum. Trump to be our new president.

@ThinkProgress: "UPDATE: Commission on Presidential Debates adopts official Trump campaign line, says moderators shouldn't fact-check" https://t.co/67jlWRtI89

Hours after the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times published separate stories outlining the lies Donald Trump has told during his presidential campaign, Trump’s campaign spokesperson told ABC’s “This Week” that it isn’t the media’s job to factcheck the presidential debate.

“I really don’t appreciate the campaigns thinking it is the job of the media to go and be these virtual fact-checkers,” Kellyanne Conway said, in an apparent attempted jab at the Clinton campaign. She also opposed debate moderators questioning the candidates’ truthfulness in any way.

...

The traditional role of the media in a free society is to inform the public. Generally, this is thought to include making the public aware of what is true and what is a lie. The Trump campaign appears to feel differently.

And they have at least some members of the media on their side. One presidential debate moderator, Fox News’ Chris Wallace, has already said that he will not factcheck the candidates during the third and final debate on Oct. 19.

“That’s not my job,” Wallace said. “It’s not my job to be a truth squad.”

The head of the Commission on Presidential Debates agreed Sunday. Speaking on CNN’s Reliable Sources, Janet Brown said that it’s not the moderator’s job to factcheck. “What is a big fact, what is a little fact?” she said. “I don’t think it’s a good idea to get the moderator into essentially serving as the Encyclopedia Britannica.”

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIX: Escape from the Planet of Debates

What's the over-under on the moderator interjecting opinion into the debate, like what happened in 2012?

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIX: Escape from the Planet of Debates

I've read in debate prep Hillary is already prepared to do the fact checking for him. Frankly this is nothing new. Candy Crowley stood out because she was the one moderator in the history of debates to correct a candidate on the spot when he was saying something that wasn't true, and in Mittens case I'm not sure if he was outright lying or merely truly thought Obama hadn't called the Benghazi attack terrorism the next day. That's why controlling the post debate spin is so important (again see Gore, Al).

You mean Clinton can't walk up to Trump while he's speaking, and stare intently, creepily, at him the whole time until he makes a truly deft performance move and acknowledges the creepiness of it all with a quick, comic look and line?

That was the high-point of Bush's intellectual prowess as POTUS, and he hadn't even taken office yet.
