Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was In)

I know it's fun to compare the two main candidates but just because Trump sucks doesn't mean Hillary is suddenly great. It's like watching a Superbowl between the '76 Bucs and the 2008 Lions. Yes, one team technically sucked more than the other but the real losers are those of us that have to watch.

People can still claim Hillary is a liar and your sources show it's a deserved term for her.

How about we get someone who doesn't lie to the people and actually makes people WANT to vote for a candidate instead of against another.

Psssssst..... Johnson / Weld :)

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

Paul Ryan, say what you will about him or his values, he at least tries to keep the discussion on things of substance.

To wit: a speech with no mention of Benghazi, emails or Trump's name.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

If enough people vote for them...the House can decide who's going to be president! Oh what fun!

It pains me to say this, but congrats on your Freeper logic, Brent.

"Vote Trump because if you don't...HIL-LIAR-Y!!!!!!"

Are any of these clowns interested in governing and have any clue about historical context?

EDIT: May these idiots never be in power again. And why? Because they refuse to acknowledge or learn from the rubble they left in 2008.

I have no idea what that means, my comment was meant as complete WTeFF is this election? Total circus.

NPR was pointing out how different GOPers are picking different lanes with their speeches. There is:

1. Trump is my personal lord and savior
2. I don't care, just not Hillary
3. Tough guy, torture, violence!
4. Pick the businessman
5. Do it for the legacy of conservative courts

This is a rare moment where people are choosing which Republican product they are going to peddle for the rest of their careers. We haven't seen this type of maneuvering at a convention since the '84 and '88 DNC, where people were picking their hyphenated interest group: women, blacks, The Poors, DLC, Jews. (This was after Jews but before Gays.)

The pick the businessman argument is one I always disliked. Probably not best for prez, but hire his/her arse to fix the defecit. Perot, for example. I'm not into politics enough to know why he never got hired (did even get an offer?); my best guess is that he wasn't "one of them (politicians)."

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

People can make up their own minds: http://www.isidewith.com/elections/2016-presidential-quiz

Mine:

.99 Bernie
.97 Hillary
.97 Stein
.69 Johnson
.07 Trump

I side with is fine, but, that does not take into account the "non issues" oriented aspects of deciding who to vote for (are they a good leader, level of integrity, trust, honor, honesty, decision maker etc).

I think not voting for someone because 'they cant win" is a self fulfilling prophecy. The ability to win could be changed if people didn't think that way.

Is Hillary the lesser of the two evils? Without question. Does that mean she is not evil? IMO, no. That's all I'm trying to get across. I've voted for what I thought was the lesser of the two evils (GWB) and regret it.

on what planet was George W ever the lesser of two evils?

I agree, but we aren't there yet with a national mentality. Governors, sure, once in a long while. President? Well, you saw what happened to Bernie.

Gary's idiotic stance on climate change is reason enough not to vote for him.

Remember a strong 3rd candidate gave us the joy of Paul LePage here in Maine (twice). That could be Trump and I'll have people like you to blame for it.

Isn't this different? The fear-mongering, ignorance-worshiping machine engineered by Ailes, Murdoch, Limbaugh et al. brought us guys like Nixon, Rove, Cheney and Dubya, and it also was able to maintain control of its assets. The mob at the gates now is of their creation but beyond their control.

I had quite a few liberals at my workplace admire him for his stance after 9-11. I was very, very surprised. I quote, "After last night (the speech he gave), he became MY president." Yup.

Plenty of people know how to fix the deficit. You could find several at any University. Raise taxes and cut spending. No one is willing to do that.

It has to start somewhere though right?

Your other option you have mentioned in this thread is not voting at all right? I feel the same way. I'm not voting for the lesser of two evils anymore. Might as well give it a shot.

That is a good point, and part of the reason I think Bernie didn't resonate with people who lean towards the right. All that free stuff? Someone has to pay.

Eric: it does indeed have to start somewhere. I voted for Jesse (MN gov) at the last minute. Walked into the booth intending to vote for Norm Coleman. Changed my mind in the booth.

The worry about a split vote is what helps kill that notion, many a time.
