Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

Oh, I think it will survive. FNC is run like CBN. Long after Robertson is in the ground, the grift will go on with some young, fresh-faced successor vacuuming the pockets of the rubes. Like a Christianist show, FNC's business model is fan service -- whatever its audience believes FNC selects/distorts events to reinforce it. Its news philosophy is Confirmation Bias. So the only way FNC will change is if it can make more money appealing to a different consumer target, and I doubt that will happen in the lifetime of anybody reading this.

Consider this though as a business case study. Fox (like all networks) is experiencing dwindling viewership. Rush Limbaugh has the same problem, which is the audience is aging and dying off. At some point you need to broaden the base or you turn into CNN, only watched by friends and family of the hosts while you wait around for a plane crash somewhere. Ailes is in his 70's, Murdoch his 80's. I doubt they were going to turn the battleship around. A new person? Maybe.

I mention Limbaugh because he's coming to the end of his fat contract signed when he was bringing in 20M listeners. He's down to 13M now so the rumor was he'd have to take a pay cut when he re-ups.

Mr. Obama was supposed to be the great uniter. Instead, there seems to be even more polarization today. Could it be what was alway there is just now exposed? Very possible. But right now in the country I feel lots of heat and see very little light.

Will all of you people stop falling for Sic's trolling already? For a guy entrusted with the country's nuclear missile technology or whatever you said you had top secret clearance for, you seem to have an awful lot of time on your hands....

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

Never missiles; just nuclear ships and subs. And I left that work long ago.
And I've done this internet thing long enough to know a response of that tenor means I've struck a nerve.

Better? You all seem to be watching the Cluster in Cleveland. I'm waiting for a flight for work. :)

Only for people new at this. ;)

But if becoming like Trump's spokesperson was your goal, well then well done sir!

I traveled last week. I'm in my home office, and it's a slow Monday... :p

EDIT: Oh great, here comes our AG to make his first 2018 gubenatorial campaign speech. *vom*

The day he was elected, the country was in a disastrous war the price for which we have not yet fully determined and an economy that was in the worst shape it had been in 4 or 5 generations. AND, GOP political leaders and widely followed social commentators openly and expressly declared their intent to oppose anything Obama tried to accomplish while in office. The party has championed high ranking politicians like Trump whose SOP is to demonize any person or idea that is not in his best interest and cultural flag-bearers like Joe the Plumber who stands for hatred of anything created by or overseen by the federal government. The GOP's core value and practice has been obfuscation and fear mongering.

There are certainly many complex reasons why our society has become more polarized, but to blame it on Obama is just simple minded blindness, IMO. Blame him for other disappointments, but that??

If North Dakota has more trees than black people then where did all of these crime committing, Tuberculosis carrying, benefit mooching, non-English speaking, Sharia law wanting people that Lutheran Social Sevices shipped in come from?

Those are Swedes.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

Interesting, especially the war with Kasich on the first day of the convention...

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/07/rnc-2016-republican-dischord-225701

Ya know, if Hillary was at war with the host governor of the swing state where the convention is taking place, why do I think we'd be seeing front page headlines in the Times, Post and everywhere else with the "Dems in Disarray" title attached to it?

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

Creepy, depressing and unsurprising.

Trump has no shortage of strong opinions even about books he has not read. He told The Washington Post that he has not read four biographies written about him, yet he called three of the authors of those books “lowlifes,” and he sued one of them for libel.

Trump’s attitude toward experts and deep study reminds some historians of George W. Bush’s oft-stated skepticism about experts, whether they studied climate change, the roots of poverty or the causes of religious conflicts.

“It’s certainly legitimate to desire a reflective person in the Oval Office, but the absence of that isn’t inherently dangerous,” Greenberg said. “In Trump’s case, his attitude toward reading is hardly unprecedented, but when you combine it with the vulgarity and the authoritarian style, it shows a locker-room, business-world machismo that pervades his persona.”

He said in a series of interviews that he does not need to read extensively because he reaches the right decisions “with very little knowledge other than the knowledge I [already] had, plus the words ‘common sense,’ because I have a lot of common sense and I have a lot of business ability.”

This guy actually is Biff Tannen come to life.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

The RNC managed to find a woman with a voice more grating than Shillary's.

And this College Republicans cheerleader is obnoxious too.

The NFRW. I assume this is a group of women who can typically be found imploring "PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN" at school boards and city council meetings.

This is easily the worst rendition of Geddy Lee's vocals I've ever heard.
