The Jam covered The Who's "So Sad About Us.” It's still obscure. (It's also terrible.)

So the hundred people in the US who've heard of The Jam will have heard it. As compared to the 100 million plus who've heard of Metallica.

By your argument, since The Who is far bigger than Metallica their original version of "So Sad About Us" is not obscure...

You misplayed the "if you think that's obscure..." Hipster sniff. We've all done it. Move on.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

OK, we won't call it an insult, even though using the diminutive is a classic insult tactic. We'll just call it annoying as f-ck.

Go with just "Warren." Earl's dead and people here are savages and don't know Robert Penn.

Fair enough in the spirit of party unity. I do like my ability to be annoying even when I'm not trying to be though. ;)

People vastly misread the Hillary support thing. I want to win because it cements liberal gains for generations. You can't own the Presidency for 12 years straight, and the Senate for 10 out of those 12 years, and not fundamentally change the country in your direction. There were 3 serious candidates running for Prez and two others. Warren didn't run. Neither did Biden. Neither did Democratic Jesus. Of the 3, all reasonably similar in policy stances, Hillary by far had the best chance in the GE, especially with my prediction the GOP would nominate a nutball. An accurate assessment although I erred on which nutball (I predicted Calgary Ted). I do seriously question Bernie's mental health and I'm not just saying that. He seems to be breaking down under the strain of campaigning and the people running his campaign are a clown show.

Would Hill struggle against a young, inspirational middle of the road Gooper? Sure. Are there any young, inspirational middle of the road Goopers? NO, there aren't. To defeat a nutjob, you don't try to out nut them. You need a cold blooded steady hand who's boring demeanor serves as the perfect contrast to the insanity of the opposing candidate. Now lets sit back and enjoy the ride.

It's a good thing Little Marco turned out to be a ventriloquist's dummy, and ¿Yeb? turned out to combine Gore's charisma with Dubya's work ethic, because I believe they would have been a serious challenge for any Democrat.

Even Trump... I know he's the GOP's worst possible choice, but it's HARD to win a third term. Electorate fatigue is a real thing. The out party always has the advantage of not being responsible for all the grievances people have built up over the past 8 years.

The Clintons are handy with a shiv, and that's what's needed when going up against the VRWC. I trust her to govern; I just hope we can get her there.

If only they'd nominated Mittens this time.

He'd still lose.

I'm praying for indictments of both candidates. Failing that, an Act of God that prevents both from standing for election.

HA! Too little too late Mark, but thanks for playing...

If Ayotte has any brains (remains to be seen) she'll be the next one that ditches him. Ron Johnson is a loon so I wouldn't expect him to, and Portman has too many angry old white guys in Ohio to get away with it. Not sure about Toomey's calculations in all of this...

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

Surely Mr. Obama would be willing to stand for an encore while it's all sorted out.

Signed,
Ben Carson

First of all, we can elect convicts to office. There's nothing in the Constitution restricting such an action. Second of all, if both candidates had to drop for various reasons, then we would either have an actual third-party victory on our hands (Gary Johnson would be most likely in that scenario) or Congress would go through the *seamless* process of selecting our next POTUS.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

All Donald does is make direct attacks

That's not true. He's also proposed insane violations to the first amendment and advocated war crimes. And then there's that stupid ****ing wall...

See? He's done other stuff. None of it makes a ****ing lick of sense, but he's done other stuff.

He's also lied and/or just made stuff up. A lot.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

Offhand, if it goes to the Congress for whatever crazy reason, is it the new one or the old that votes?

It would be the new one, I think. Congress is sworn in a couple weeks prior to the president, and up to that point we would have a sitting president which would negate the need for a vote.

That said, it's been a long, long time since my American gov't course, and I'm no lawyer.

You're right about the new Congress being sworn in about January 3; however, it may come down to when it is determined that the Electoral College does not have a majority vote outcome. But, I do suspect you're correct in that it'd be the new Congress.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

Well, based on the GOP's thinking, it CAN'T be the old congress, because "the American public needs a voice in the decision" and therefore the old Congress shouldn't be allowed to have a say even if they're still in office when the vote is supposed to take place.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

Interesting

For Comrade Bernie, I guess wealthy Hollywood fundraising galas are only obscene when Hillary throws them at Clooney's mansion with A-list invitees, not when Bernie quietly "slums it" with the B-listers. ;)

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

Watching these CNN people go at the Trump guy over the judge thing is hilarious.
