Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

Obviously, we know what we did. There are a lot of reasons our parties are so terrible that ****ing Drumpf and ****ing Hillary are our options, but all of it comes back to them giving us what we've seemingly wanted. Our electorate is basically the voting equivalent of that Dark Knight Rises shooter...

"Why are we stuck with these options?" "Oh, right, we've systematically destroyed every ounce of moderation out of our political system and decided that entertainment and gut instincts should drive our democracy."

fitting that kep got the last word in there...

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

First the fellow RNC members fell in line in support of Trump. Next, the RNC's corporate partners are now falling in line. Looks like everyone is happy over at the RNC in getting behind Trump.

All the hullabaloo about the RNC Convention being a dumpster fire have suddenly subsided.

The Christian fundies and the family values folks as well.

Which just goes to show that their whole thing isn't about Christian morality or family values, just that they hate the f@gs and abortion.

The irony there is Hillary is and Trump would be, if he had any principles at all, utterly moderate. Hillary is dead at the origin of a Cartesian graph of economics and foreign policy, while with Trump you need to project imaginary spaces using complex numbers to measure such dimensions as "did he really say that?" and "beg pardon?"

Subscribed because this is going to be the most embarrassing election in the history of our country

1876 is on the clock and I don't think we're beating it.

Depending on how you're setting your baseline for "center" you may very well be right, but I don't think you can apply that to the overwhelming bulk of the Democratic party.

She's certainly centrist in comparison to Sanders, but that's not a challenging comparison. Plus, she's a... uh... BIG MONEY campaigner. Even if she's not that far to the left, she's a poster child for the SuperPAC campaign model that's been used by the GOP to turn the right into a **** show, and it WILL have an adverse effect on the Dems if we don't get the campaign financing/corruption aspect of our government under control in the next few cycles.

We pulled the plutes back from the abyss of dictatorship twice before, with TR and then FDR. Hillary isn't the third goal in that hat trick, and I seriously doubt her SCOTUS appointees will help (though they are sure to be better than the Federalist phone book Trump cribbed from Jeff Session's porn tabs).

I'm not sure how we can stop them short of a constitutional amendment that says spending isn't protected speech. That lie is such cocaine for the plutes that it might take an armed insurrection to force them to drop it.

Provocative piece. Franck has a way of being on point about quirky, imaginative minutia while still being wildly wrong about everything important. He has such an eye for the interesting idea, or discrepancy, or observation. He has a first rate critical mind impaired by some tragedy in his autobiography that he was never quite able to come to terms with, even if only to move beyond. It's like reading Hemingway after he became an alcoholic, or seeing an Italian race car hampered by low octane fuel.

Not saying that this is the case, but ... Has anyone thought about the possibility that this sudden swing in polling favorability for Trump over Hillary could have something to do with the Bernie Sanders supporters? I receive emails from the Bernie campaign (never once did I or would I ever ask for them lol) and they are trying to a point to their supporters on a regular basis that his only shot now is to convince the super delegates to switch sides. Which only will happen if they have a strong reason to fear how she will do in the general election against Trump. Not sure how that could correlate to polling data, but if they know to say Trump instead of Hillary hoping that could swing the polls to make her look bad that could make a big difference.

Yeah, just wait until Tuesday, November 8, 2016 for the season finale of Celebrity Apprentice - Boss Wins edition.

This is correct, but Spartan's concern trolling has given me the biggest yawn since mookie did a poetry reading at the Student Union when we were both at BU together. ;) Yes one of those polls has 20% of Sanders supporters voting for....Trump. Yeah.

But liberals need to embrace polling like this. Simply put, I want every Republican to hop on the Donald Trump bandwagon because they think he has a chance to win. That way they all go down with him. So Viva la Trump! (another poll had him running about the same with Hispanics as Mittens. Who are the 30% of Hispanics who are supporting Trump?)

I don't think more than about 1% of Bernie supporters will migrate to Trump. Even if they somehow believed Trump was going to address wealth inequality, lack of opportunity, social mobility, and neo-liberal predators, the Republican party has been on the wrong side of every one of those issues both in ideology and policy position since the mid-70s. On fiscal issues, let's say Hillary is scabies. Even if you are deranged enough to believe Trump is some sort of new age aromatherapy, the GOP is still cholera.

If even. Sanders and Trump have very, very little in common and that's good for Sanders. Find it hard to believe that the social justice warriors of the Bernie campaign want to vote for a guy who'll ban Muslims and deport everybody with a tan and a foreign accent.

Having said that, the math is simple. Obama won a little over 80% of the non-white vote which made up 28% of the electorate. Trump is going to lose by even more, say 85% and I'm being generous when they make up 30% of the 2016 electorate. 85% of 30% = 25.5. For Hillary to be polling in the low 40's she'd have to lose the remaining 70% of white voters by an astounding 75-25% spread (25% of 70% = 17.5 so 25.5+17.5 = 43%. That includes young voters and women who will presumably be somewhat interested in the first female President. Obviously absurd. Most likely she does better than Obama's 39/59 split with whities, but lets call it 40%. 40% of the 70% white voters gives her 28. Add the 25.5 minority vote and you get......53.5. About Obama's total from the 2008 contest! I can easily see a 53-45-2 contest with Trump struggling to hit Mittens 47% due to those voters "aging out" of the totals. The 2% are loonitarians and people who write in their own names. ;)

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XII: What Have We Done To Deserve This?

If I ever meet a Bernie supporter who even considers voting for Trump I will kick them in the c**t!
