Silly Priceless, it only matters if Democrats make money. Don't ask questions like how is Rick Perry a mutimillionare even though he's had a govt job the last 30 years, or how Ron Paul made his fortune printing Klan speech in his newsletter.

Chris Christie thinks 700 Grand a year isn't rich. I tend to think t might be.

Said it before...and I'm in the minority on this one. I believe most earn what they deserve. Christie is an example, while professional athletes are another. The guy runs a huge state and makes critical decisions for millions of people. The market typically determines people's value. And IMO society is better for it. Having said that, there are many cases where corruption (i.e., bad executive boards) give large sums to undeserving executives. Unfortunately that is an unavoidable byproduct of capitalism.

Capitalism, maybe. A market economy certainly not. One of the best aspects of a market economy is tying reward to performance. If you run a company (or a state) into the ground, there should be consequences -- you forfeit your compensation or you get fired. We don't have to throw out market economics -- we have to hold highly paid performers accountable if they suck at their jobs. The galling aspect of our current system is these people get richer and richer regardless of their value. That's not a free market, it's rentierism.

No they don't. They earn what the market will give them.

The market may be better than other means of distributing resources, but it is by no means infallible. Nor does it have anything to do with what one "deserves."

Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton certainly worked hard for their millions.

Hillary Clinton went incognito to Chipotle and the GOP turned it into a campaign issue. Even overshadowing one of their own candidates announcing for president.

If the GOP is reduced to campaigning on TACOGHAZI and BURRITOGATE, it might not be a close election after all.

And they pay taxes on the interest and dividends. I would prefer that they paid taxes on what they spent, but the tax law is the tax law.

Remember the average person does not get paid for doing whatever they want to do...but rather gets paid for services that are in demand. The net outcome is that the market makes products and services that people want. Without having had this for hundreds of years, our standard of living today would be quite poor.

I did say most deserve it...and no its definitely not infallible.

Just like pro athlete's , they're entertainers. Although they aren't exciting for me...they do make some people's lives more interesting. And they sell a lot of products which generate quite a few jobs...etc. Wiki says Kardashian is worth $45 million and much of that is her business lines.

Government oversight is critical. But too much government interference gets tricky as oversight can have unintended consequences and is at risk of use in corruption. I think things in the states have worked quite well overall; the US punches waay above its weight in terms of market outcomes to our citizens benefit. Things could be better but are pretty close to how they should be.

But Mummy and Daddy Perry didn't say they had nothing when they left their previous job.

Nobody likes a hypocrite of any party or persuasion.

Probably. We're not all equals. Some people are born with tools that give them an edge. Some people are able to overcome those obstacles. And then having the ability to navigate through everything when you get there so you can stay there. It's not easy stuff.

How about we get back to the real point: It's ok to make money, everybody likes making money. But don't b* about how many stacks of paper your tax return takes or that you make $200k+ a year and are "struggling" to pay bills.

Yeah, a friend of mine went to UNH on an athletic scholarship. She earned a degree in physical education because she wanted to be a hoops coach and gym teacher. Then her sister gets her a job in Arizona making six figures and she's griping to me about her $700 car payment and 2K mortgage. Didn't take her long to forget what it was like to earn $10/hour. Like I want to hear about her money problems. Now she and her husband are building an absolute palace in Texas, complete with 4-car garage and (wait for it) a car elevator.

Wow. A 6 figure job with no college degree (phy ed? Please.) to speak of. Must be nice.

Are you surprised? It's all they have.
