Cruz' jump is huge. Hopefully he mistimed it and the new scrutiny will knock him down again before it's too late.

Trump's splits are hysterical. About half of all Republicans think he would be best able to deal with ISIS. Really? Tell me again why I should take the right seriously.

When organizations conduct polls at this point in the cycle, do they limit them to likely primary voters or still with their general elections list?

How are Trump's proposals any different than anybody else in the GOP for fighting overseas? Getting past the bombast, who in that party would be doing much different than what's being done now, with the exception of some fringers like Graham who want another US invasion, Iraq-style?

Good question. My understanding is that its a likely voter screen, and that's the problem with modern polling across the board. Hence the wild fluctuations we often see. Gallup in 2012 is the most notable example, only including people who were a 9 or 10 on the enthusiasm scale which showed them a 5 point Mittens victory in a race he lost by 4%. A lot more of the 6-7-8's on the enthusiasm scaled showed up to vote.

I have not heard a single substantive proposal concerning ISIS from any candidate of either party. Voter choice right now is not based on content, it's based on persona. The Trump persona is appealing to Republicans. They actually buy it.

This has all happened before, and it will happen again.

Trump's not the most dangerous candidate. Cruz either. It's Rubio. He's a snake. A Wolf in Sheep's clothing. He's replaced Walker as the most dangerous candidate on the GOP stage. He must be stopped. Nothing could be worse than having him win the Presidency.

I don't agree. Rubio would just be another vacuous, empty-headed puppet for the oligarchs, like Dubya. He would be like a Dan Quayle presidency -- silly, wasteful and embarrassing, but hardly the nightmare scenario.

Cruz OTOH is very dangerous because he's competent and because he has a plan. Much like Cheney, he has the intelligence to convert his diseased world view to action, and we can't let the power of the US armed forces, surveillance state, and economy fall into those grasping hands.

Cruz would also be a moral disaster for America, because it would mean he was democratically chosen. Over the last decade we have seen the bigoted, cowardly, fanatical side of America gradually wane. The election of Cruz would be a stunning moral reversal.

FWIW, Cruz and Rubio have both started airing a ton of ads on TV in Iowa lately.

Yeah gotta agree with Kep on this one. Rubio is here because the powers that be decided they needed to get younger and browner, so he's being pimped as the future of the GOP despite having little in the way of credentials or ideas. I mean, the guy's mentor was Jebbers! for chrissakes. :eek: If Susana Martinez decided to run instead Rubio would still be an anonymous freshman Senator with zero accomplishments and Carly Fiorina would be trying to find another job where she could lay off 35,000 people and collect another 22M bucks for it.

I'm not on the Trump bandwagon but I understand the reason. People are ticked off at Washington and the state houses and our political masters in general. We've been fed a line of bull for eons and are now waking up to the fact of what really makes up Soylent Green.

The Donald is an outsider and not of the political class. He could be a real life equivalent of Howard Beall.

Addressing the Republican Jewish Coalition today, Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson told a story about how the Star of David came to be on the U.S. dollar bill.

Only one problem: There’s no Star of David on the dollar bill.

Carson was telling the story of wealthy Jewish merchant Haym Salomon, who is said to have been a major financier of George Washington’s troops during the Revolutionary War.

"Salomon gave all his funds to save the U.S. Army and, some say, no one knows for sure, that’s the reason there’s a Star of David on the back of the one dollar bill," Carson said in Washington, D.C.

There is a conspiracy theory that a design of stars arranged above the eagle on the U.S. seal printed on the bill forms a Jewish star and that this was done as a way to thank Salomon for his generosity.

But the Numismatic Bibliomania Society’s Wayne Homren says there’s no evidence to suggest any truth to support the theory that the stars were intentionally arranged to represent the Jewish star, let alone that it was done in Salomon’s name.

“If you squint, you can say there’s some resemblance but that certainly was not the intention of the designers, that we’re aware,” Homren told ABC News.

His political instincts are vastly underrated. The man has built a billion dollar fortune on appealing to the consumer and giving/telling them what they want to hear. He correctly realizes the base of the GOP, which is made up of 60-70 year old white non-college educated males, is angry that the country has changed over their lifetimes, and they want someone to take it to the people/groups/institutions that they blame for that. Nobody gave a rat's arse about illegal immigration before he made it a centerpiece, even though its clearly a BIG issue for the base. All that money spent on consultants, pollsters, grifters, etc and NOBODY keyed in on this? Yeah...

He also correctly identified the base's support of "enhanced interrogation procedures" against American's enemies. This locks up the neo-cons who also have nowhere viable to go. Lastly, he nailed it on entitlements and gubmint spending. Conservatives don't oppose government spending. They oppose it if it goes to people they don't like (welfare queens, college kids, minorities, refugees, PP, etc). Trump has completely ditched Paul Ryan's infatuation with Ayn Rand and has even mocked it, as he astutely figured out the people he's asking for votes benefit greatly from govt programs, particularly Medicare and Social Security. This is his, if you're pardon the expression, trump card when Cruz or Rubio attacks him. Trump is going to go into Kentucky or Ohio or West Virginia and tell the voters that you paid into these programs your whole life, but now instead of punishing the illegals taking your health care away from you they want to cut YOUR benefits alongside theirs. He's set this up perfectly.

I could not have explained it as clearly as you all have, but your responses are not surprising. Still, it is painful to acknowledge that so many in the GOP (and others) are driven that way. I'm old and not as idealistic and naive as I once was, but kryst . . . .

If it's a Star of David the center star shouldn't be there. But I wouldn't be shocked that there's another of those nutty Masonic symbols they threw in there.
