Re: Campaign 2016 - A Trump l'oeil? Kepler's Laws of Election Motions? Ship of Fools

I always kind of liked Jon Huntsman. Seemed reasonable in the debates I watched, fiscally conservative but relatively pro science...I think he finished last in Iowa when he ran.

Not that I need to explain to someone from Wisconsin, but As someone who lives next to Iowa, that doesn't surprise me. They are like the Mississippi of the Midwest. No, more like the Alabama of the Midwest. (Mississippi drinks paint thinner which is closer to Wisconsin ;) )

Iowa is basically Kansas north. Seriously. There is so much deep that comes out of that state I feel like I need to shower twice daily. The Quad Cities are is nice because there are so many young engineers Living around there, but the rest of it is Hicksville.

Yeah, the first Midwestern state to legalize gay marriage is the same as Kansas.

Don't confuse Steve King's district with the state as a whole. Pretty much all the cities are liberal, except for SUX, the meth capital of the country.

Wasn't that by court order? Or am I remembering that wrong?

edit: I confirmed this for myself--and additionally found that the voters kicked several of those judges to the curb in response to their decision.

This is a great line:

"[O]ther Republicans appear to be insufficiently shocked and awed."

I'll say. Though I still think Jeb! will be the nominee due to systemic and financial considerations, it really looks like he's politically and charismatically the weakest of his family's Three Bland Mice.

It would be wonderful if he failed terribly in the campaign and was forced to drop out; it might just drive a stake into that loser family's dynasty permanently.

You elected Jodi Ernst to Statewide office. That's almost as psychotic as what Wisconsin has done. Why Iowa and Wisconsin both want to follow Kansas' lead I have no clue.

As an outsider, I always think of Iowa as the midwestern state that derp forgot.

It sounds like it might have Texas Disease: tons of educated, sane people but even more idiots.

Limbaugh, take note. This is how you do Operation Chaos.

Re: Campaign 2016 - A Trump l'oeil? Kepler's Laws of Election Motions? Ship of Fools

From Rolling Stone, its the GOP Debate Drinking Game!!!! :D

Drink THE FIRST TIME:

1. Donald Trump mentions his wealth, or how smart he is.

2. A candidate mentions Benghazi

3. A candidate says, "This president..."

4. A candidate whines about not getting called on enough.

5. Someone promises to "take America back."

6. Trump interrupts someone by saying, "Excuse me, let me answer that…"

7. Anyone mentions Hitler, Nazis or Neville Chamberlain. Includes related imagery, e.g. "ovens."

8. The crowd cheers a racist/bigoted statement by a candidate.

9. A candidate mentions his poor/hardscrabble upbringing, or a parent who "worked every day of his life."

10. A candidate talks about "stopping Hillary Clinton."

11. Anyone warns the U.S. is becoming Greece.

12. Trump refers to himself in the third person.

13. Anyone invokes St. Ronald Reagan.

Drink EVERY time a candidate:

14. Claims a positive relationship with a minority. Also known as the, "Some of my best friends are…" rule.

15. Tries to speak Spanish

16. Tries to warm up to the Ohio crowd with an awkward LeBron shout-out.

Drink EVERY TIME you hear the word(s):

17. "I'm not a scientist."

18. "You can keep your doctor."

19. "ACORN."

20. "The war on Christians."

21. "Thug."

22. "Right here in Ohio."

23. "Culture of dependency."

TAKE A SHOT OF JAGER AT ANY MENTION OF:

24. "Kenya."

25. "All Lives Matter."

Knock out 4 because it's just a typical debate move.

Knock out 9, 16 and 22 because they're just ordinary pandering.

The rest are GOP Gold. We'll all be drunk an hour in.

These two are somewhat loaded against at least three candidates, well two and possibly a third. Jeb is married to a Latina, and Marco Rubio is first generation US citizen. ;) Nobody's quite sure about Rafael "Ted" Cruz. :p

Cruz doesn't have to worry about 14. He has no friends.

I would exempt Jeb! from 15. Everything I've read indicates his Spanish is legit, and any pol with Spanish would use it in this environment.

Now, if Trump tries to speak Spanish, empty the bar.

I've got no answer for Ernst beyond the usual (off year wave election with a **** poor campaign by the D) but we still have a divided govt, so we don't get the derp because the Senate shoots it down.

And while I have no love for the Stache, he's also nowhere near Walker or Brownback on the derp scale. He's a traditional Republican, not a tea partier.

Now the Lt. Gov, on the other hand...

The RNC aren't the only ones limiting their debates.

"These six debates will not only give caucus goers and primary voters ample opportunity to hear from our candidates about their vision for our country’s future, they will highlight the clear contrast between the values of the Democratic Party which is focused on strengthening the middle class versus Republicans who want to pursue out of touch and out of date policies," DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz said in a Thursday statement.

DWS is loathsome on so many levels, but in this case it aint her -- she's just doing her job. In case it wasn't obvious before (spoiler: it was obvious before), the fix is in.

I'm planning on drinking just based on the news coverage of the highlights of the debate. I think I'll still be drunk playing this game...;)

6 debates are enough. They're scripted BS for the most part anyway.
