I doubt Reagan could win now. The electorate has changed.

Nah, he could still win. Bilderberg likes actors, as they're essentially the same as politicians, only with even greater name recognition.

Go Hillary!

From First Read

Hillary punches Jeb -- again

"As for Bush's comments yesterday on Planned Parenthood and women's health, he later issued a statement saying he "misspoke" (though the original email statement omitted the "misspoke" part). "[T]here are countless community health centers, rural clinics, and other women's health organizations that need to be fully funded. They provide critical services to all, but particularly low-income women who don't have the access they need," he said. But it was too late. First, Hillary Clinton tweeted to Bush, "You are absolutely, unequivocally wrong" -- about not needing half a billion dollars for women's health issues. And then she used her campaign event in Denver to deliver another punch. "Now he's got no problem giving billions of dollars away to super wealthy and powerful corporations, but I guess women's health just isn't a priority for him," Clinton said, per NBC's Monica Alba. "Now, I'd like to ask him, Gov. Bush, try telling that to the mom who caught her breast cancer early because she was able to get screened in time. Was her health not worth the money? Tell it to the teenager who avoided an unintended pregnancy because she had access to contraception. Tell it to everyone who was protected by an HIV test." Ouch."

It's not presidential politics, but the gubernatorial race in MS just took an odd turn. A truck driver just beat a tiral lawyer and an OB-GYN in the D primary race.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi Republican Gov. Phil Bryant has $2.8 million in his campaign fund, and his Democratic challenger in the November election is a truck driver who reported spending no money so far and who said he didn't even vote in Tuesday's primary.

Robert Gray won the Democratic primary for governor over two candidates — Vicki Slater, a trial lawyer backed by much of the Democratic establishment; and Dr. Valerie Adream Smartt Short, an obstetrician-gynecologist.

Gov. Bryant easily defeated his only GOP primary opponent, Mitch Young of Sumrall, a Navy veteran who spent little.

Regardless of party I couldn't read that people are happy with the direction of Mississippi over the last 8 years with a straight face. It ranks dead last in like every quality of life category known to man, and a few more that haven't been identified yet.

Re: Campaign 2016 - A Trump l'oeil? Kepler's Laws of Election Motions? Ship of Fools

McCain wasn't going to win that election - no Republican was going to win in '08, not coming on the heels of Bush. The Dalai Lama - himself! - couldn't have won that election if he'd had a R after his name. They had a chance in '12, but failed to find the right candidate.

There was also no way in hell the ******** in office should have been reelected in '04. Look who the Dems picked. It matters who is on the other side. If the Dems had nominated a Kerry again where a Swift Boat attack would have worked and McCain hadn't picked psycho then yes the GOP could have won in '08.

The nominees matter. There are too many "non-independents" in the electorate that automatically pull the lever.

If an Arne Carlson ran for President on the GOP side then I would change my vote right now. There are no Arne Carlson types running.

Mississippi is what the GOP wants for everyone. Lots of freedom in that state.

So here's a question for the mid- to far-left posters:

Is there a person in government who doesn't caucus with the Democrats that you would consider voting for in a presidential race*?

*Assume you were the deciding vote, so none of this, "Well, I vote in Minnesota so it doesn't matter" or "Trump isn't electable" dodges.

It's not the Presidency. It's the Tea Party control in Congress that keeps me away from moderate Republican candidates

I'd worry more about the establishment GOP that hijacked the T.E.A. Party in order to promote old and busted.

You look at the red belt, and almost all the states are competing for the bottom of every quality of life metric known to man.

And policies they end up supporting will keep them there.

Neither was Obama. When Hillary blew it, there he was. And then McCain blew it by picking a psychotic to run with him.

Obama gave speeches that made people think and get excited. Hillary and the Clown Show couldnt get someone excited with an 8 ball of coke, 50 strippers and a stack of cash.

I would have voted for Mitt -- he was a pretty good Governor. I do think it was hilarious how far the tried to distance himself from what SHOULD have been his strongest selling point -- providing more or less universal health care in Massachusetts.

Love the names. Vicky and Valerie -- too bad V. Guy Fawkes didn't run. and "Adream Smartt Short"?

I don't know....seems like that might be enough to do the trick... :D

Only people like you who seem to have a Pantsuit fetish  ;)

Hey with that kind of party going on some of the USCHO conservatives might even start to seem interesting...

Any chance that if they themselves picked the categories in a "quality of life" quota they would come out on top?

How much cash? I think I might be tempted.

No, that can't be

Re: Campaign 2016 - A Trump l'oeil? Kepler's Laws of Election Motions? Ship of Fools

No. Kasich comes closest but when (Kepler pointed me to it) you look at his voting record, I can't get there.

That was the only name I could think of that might come close.

If a moderate Republican came out and credibly said he would veto any tea party derp that crossed his desk, sure. But they can't do that, so in reality, probably not.

As I've posted before, I could see myself voting for a Christie or Kasich in a neutral political environment, but not now. It's not that I think they'd push the derp, I just don't see them stopping it, which is just as bad.

Frankly it's the opposite of the last judicial retention election here in Iowa. The Supreme Court justice that was up I would've voted against in any other climate because he's an *** and a pr!ck. But it was clouded by the fact the derps wanted to oust him for the gay marriage decision. Wasn't going to let that happen, especially after they ousted three others 2 years prior.

That's also my take on it. I don't think they're all derp-peddlers but they don't have the balls to say, "No"
