Campaign 2016 - A Trump l'oeil? Kepler's Laws of Election Motions? Ship of Fools?

Amazing is that The Donald handled it (meh, < shrug > ) reasonably when hit with it live, but then completely crapped himself later on CNN.

Very true. A polished (i.e,, manufactured) politician would have done the opposite.

Just as Ben Carson hopes to be the Fox mirror to MSNBC's Rev. Al, Bernie is the D's "Donald" (minus the lhasa Apso headpiece).

That's an insulting comparison for both of them.

Sanders is like the nutty, far-left prof most of us had that one semester in college when we were doing our blow-off liberal arts/humanities elective. He's wacky, funny, and mostly harmless.

Trump is the loudmouth braggadocio that every corporation bigger than 100 employees has at least a few of. They typically inhabit the sales staff, but later in life can also be found in the boardroom. They've been through at least a couple of marriages, and learned most of their behavior from their overbearing fathers.

Rec'd. Dead on for both comparisons. Trump really is that a-hole type that just drops off the business school conveyer belt. Only thing he's missing is a secret, sad substance abuse problem. (I think the only thing Trump gets high on is Trump.)

Sounds to me like she's qualified to run Washington, the Federal government, as well as those there trying today.

I suppose when your party's stated goal is to wreck government to prove that it can't work, she would be a great candidate.

Edit: then again, by that standard, Isaiah Thomas would be the ideal candidate. Talk about failing upward.

Why compare Bernie to The Donald?

Because as much as their true believers believe in them, when the average voter gets in the booth they'll see the "nutty", "wacky", or "loudmouth", "braggadocio" and say "I'm not voting to have that lead the news feed for the next four years."

I forgot the part about inheriting their cold, distant mother's drinking problem.

I believe we call this plot the "Cable TV Movie of the Week", right?

I suspect an addiction to hair care products that have perfect hold of a comb over.

I may be too close to it; I just don't see it that way. I think the Dem equivalent to Trump in that respect was Jesse.

Lifetime. Spoiler: it's the guy's fault.

It's broken already. When you don't have the money to pay current accounts and are just accruing long term debt on long term debt, it's broken already.

Nah. Trump is a blowhard who is in it because he's a narcissist. Bernie is a true believer. Ron Paul (not Rand)/Huckabee/Santorum are better comparisons.

Bernie may very well be unelectable in a general election, but he's not Trump.

I was too close also: I didn't see Trump for what he is until I heard the CNN comment. Like I said, he DQ'd himself with that one.

Bernie will have his "nutty statement" that'll DQ him moment. He has plenty of time. Using the professor analogy, we're only a couple weeks into the semester. Wait for it ...

And which party broke it? Hint: "Deficits don't matter."

Quite honestly: Both. Neither has done squat to stem the flood of red ink. Frankly, both use it to keep the status quo (aka themselves re-elected).

Yeah, well, it's been my point for a while but I keep getting "LOCK" pushed down my throat.

Yeah it sucks when your schtick gets thrown back at ya eh. Remember when Walker was a...what was it you said...oh yeah a LOCK! It burns a bit dont it ;)

And yes...I say the Dem is a lock. No way the Clown Show wins.

Walker was a lock to the GOP nod until he spazzed and blew it. His performance at the debate was more proof that he has idiots running his campaign. How he got elected in Wisconsin three times will NEVER cease to amaze me. I still consider him the most dangerous politician in America.

As for the Dems being a lock. Too funny. Watch Hillary blow it.

While this is true in isolation, the lesson of the 80s through today is that the Democrats' "tax and spend" may have sucked, but it was much better than the Republicans' "borrow and spend."

But in the general election the clown show won't be running; it will be Jeb! plus whatever token mannequin they prop up next to him plus the lawyers, career politicians and billionaires who actually run the Republican party (as distinct from the lawyers, career politicians and billionaires who actually run the Democratic party). The GOP knows to every thing there is a season: a time to say stupid things to get the base excited, and a time to put the crazies back in the attic and run a centrist campaign so they can keep The Scam going.

The Dems are not a lock. We are never farther than a bad campaign away from the triumph of the orcs. As 2000 taught, the price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
