Campaign 2014: The Epic Struggle To Win The Senate And Change Nothing

Re: Campaign 2014: The Epic Struggle To Win The Senate And Change Nothing

I voted about a half hour ago and I was shocked that turnout was so high. It is going to be at least 60% in my district. Which is pretty impressive considering it is an off year and that a majority of races were either uncontested or are predicted to be runaways.

I have never had a more lopsided ballot in my voting life.

Heck - I voted for a Democrat in Maryland (Franchot for Comptroller). Left the HofR ballot blank. The GOP candidate is a nut and I refuse to vote for Van Hollen.

I have to report that no zombies were seen in my polling place.

South Carolina elects a black man to serve in the US Senate for the first time in their history.

West Virginia elects a woman to serve in the US Senate for the first time in their history.

Diversity advocates everywhere are cheering for progress, right?

So my wife voted tonight at the same place where I was all alone this a.m., and she said turnout was actually decent. So either I hit a slow spot or my neighbors are coordinating around my actions...

I came closer to a straight ticket than in any election I have ever voted in.

I'll cheer. That's good. I assume from your tone that they are Repubs?

I would love to see a law banning possession of all firearms within 1 mile of any school.

Guns don't kill people, bullets kill people. Why regulate guns when regulating the sale of ammunition is all you really need to get the truly dangerous element out of people's hands?

Re: Campaign 2014: The Epic Struggle To Win The Senate And Change Nothing

I voted for the Green party candidate for Governor, Lt. Governor, Comptroller and Attorney General. Mostly because Cuomo acts like a lying emperor and partly so that Green party can keep ballot status in NY. Then Dems for US House, NYS Assembly, county clerk, and Sherriff. A Rep for town justice. Left the state supreme court justice and NYS Senate blank. Both are Rep *******es.

In NY we had three propositions. First was for a (bad) redistricting committee - no vote on that one. Second was so that NYS bills (Assembly & Senate) can be distributed electronically - yes on that one (welcome to 1995!). Third was for a $2B bond to give schools more technology - no on that one (not against schools but there was no provision for updating said tech when it becomes obsolete in 2 years).

Those are pushed by tech companies who make a killing on the back end. The states don't even get discounts -- it's a pure grift.

I went in to vote and nobody was at my precinct. Get in the booth, line is forming.

My State Rep and State Senator were both running unopposed. Both are incumbents. Both are Dems. In Alaska.

Which is weird, because FF is a liberal Democrat....

Florida is going to be an absolute clusterfk again.

College district?

Gillespie with an early lead over Warner. 56% in but I am curious how much of that count includes Northern Virginia which is Blue.

And this from our local Fox investigative reporter

MSNBC's Chris Matthews lamenting that Hillary Clinton now can't get Dem control of House when she wins White House in 2016.

Since I'll never be able to run myself, I was able to vote for a guy I went to high school with who was running for state legislature. I expect him to finish third tonight.

I was planning on going to the campaign party of whichever candidate was having the best spread, but there's a Bruins game on to distract me. I have heard voter turnout here in Maine was through the roof. I'm sure all these people turned out to vote for the status quo.

When isn't it?

A mysterious robocall told poll workers in Chicago that they needed extra training and wouldn't be able to work today, so polls opened late all over the city. I'm sure it was the New Black Panther party at work in the GOP stronghold of Chicago...

And will they stay open late to make up for it? I mean that would be fair, right? Then the machine can see how many cemeteries have to stay open to make sure the right candidate wins.

Took out the trash.

Walked right into my polling place and up to the check-in. Small line showed up after I left. Shame.

College district?
No, not even close. Healthy mix of lower, middle, and upper class. In fact it was redistricting to have a mix of R and D. Nearly 85% white for my Senate District. I'm actually kind of shocked the GOP couldn't even rustle up some crazy hockey mom to get 40%.

Why would a cemetery need to stay open late?
