It may be a boogeyman, but I sure wasn't happy with EOs when Shrub used them.
Sauce for the goose; I would like to see clear substantive restrictions of EOs, Signing Statements, and Recess Appointments. No matter who is in the White House, the executive branch is too strong.

Scott Brown - I've never seen a guy who inspired more heterosexual male conservatives to drool over him. Its really creepy when they get that gleam in their eye when they talk about him.
Look, I give Brown credit for jumping into a race nobody thought he could win, and then doing what he needed to do to beat a D list candidate in "Marsha" Coakley who's now on her way to blowing the governor's race this year.
However, whether you're attracted to him or like his policies, the guy's a dumb ***. He's a wealthy man thanks to his willingness to make that race a few years back, and good for him, but that doesn't make him any less stupid.
I'm guessing that NH race isn't nearly as close as some pollsters would like to make it out to be, and the fact the guy just moved to the state several months ago one would think is going to register. Also consider that the Dem Governor in NH is going to win big and Scottie is in the same situation he was in Mass in 2012 - he needs a lot of people to split their tickets for him to win. Not sure Shaheen inspires people to vote against her in droves as she seems pretty low key.

Oh I agree completely. I would also go to 51-vote cloture and end blue slips. For that matter I'd abolish the Electoral College, have a mandatory age of retirement for any federal government position at 80, expand election day to a full week, have 100% publicly financed elections and ban all private political contributions as felonious bribery.
None of those things are going to happen, obviously, but they'd be a start on the long road back from corporate feudalism.

They don't want to talk about the executive orders, at least until there's an R in the Oval Office and then executive orders will be horrible. Me, I think that running a country by executive order, as Obama has done far more than anyone else, makes a mockery of the division of powers. But, I guess that's yet another boat that has sailed and isn't likely to return to dock.

If people are halfway reasonable, there could be a meeting of the minds on what is substantive or not. Therefore I don't expect such a meeting of the minds. Issuing an executive order thanking the local Scout troop for raising funds for a cause is less substantive (though a worthy thing to do), than a number of major actions Obama has taken. Obama himself has made the point lots of times that he'll go it alone with executive orders as much as he can. For you to argue differently puts you at odds even with the guy who is issuing them!

The only way Obama could have pleased the current Republicans in Congress would be to resign. They've had it in for him from day one, but he still tried for two solid years to deal with them and all they did was act like children. Eventually, he gave up. I don't blame him -- I'd have written them off much sooner.
If the next president is a Democrat they will pull the same crap, because it has nothing to do with policy and everything to do with politics. They've torqued their base up to 11 spouting that Democrats are actual evil, and there is no compromising with evil.
I'm not sure the GOP can get out of their blind alley. Even assuming they had people who realized how effed they are (and it seems oddly possible that many of them really don't know), it's going to take a brutal stab in the front of the Teahadists. And like the Democrats deliberately shedding the South, they are going to take a spectacular short term hit, as in, < 100 EVs.

Bob is trying a tried and true conservative talking point, which is "oh, the Prez won't meet us in the middle" when the GOP viewpoint is out on the lunatic fringe. If people wanted Republican ideas running the country, they wouldn't have lost the popular vote in 5 out of the last 6 Presidential elections.
I'm guessing the old dinosaurs in the Dem caucus (Reid, Durbin) finally realizing the GOP has no plans to compromise (only took 5 years to figure that out) plus the retirement of several other accomodators (Rockefeller, Dorgan, etc) who want to play by rules cons already ditched decades ago will lead to a much more aggressive Democratic party when it comes to obstructionism. While the House is a majority rules institution, I'm thinking in a Dem senate + Dem Presidency scenario a lot more things are not going to be subject to the filibuster.
