Call me impatient, but...

Re: Call me impatient, but...

I submit that the original topic is more disturbing than any of the locker room talk, but what do I know?

Re: Call me impatient, but...

This thread got very disturbing very quickly.

Hey, you opted to start teasing people and I opted to pick on you for it. I know the folks in the CCCP hate this kind of talk but that's only because we're not bowing at the altar of all things Vermont.

Re: Call me impatient, but...

Seriously tho, let's drop some (more) pucks. Looking forward to the poll should it arrive this week.

The preseason poll will be out today. After attempting to fill mine out...all I can say is things are wide open. Comes up every year but I've never seen such a stack of good teams that are this difficult to differentiate between. Should be a heck of a fun season...

I've never seen so many of the "classic contenders" all being on such as state of rebuilding. Of course, every year has its Senior Class, but this past year, coupled with injuries, transfers, and drop-outs seems to have hit most teams harder than usual - and helped provide a more equal playing field - But which coaches have filled the gaps the best?????

Re: Call me impatient, but...

I feel your pain. Consider this - USCHO sends a busload to the D-1 FF, and a Mini Cooper to the D-3 FF. We know where their feelings lie - heck, I wonder if anyone on the management board has a current D-III affiliation?

How did you know I own a MINI Cooper and took it to Lake Placid last year?

Seriously! I do, and I did!

Re: Call me impatient, but...

I assume that all of the astute DIII hockey fans have noticed preview columns are starting to go up on the USCHO DIII main page.

With that being an obvious truth, this post is most likely redundant and unnecessary.

Scott

With conference play starting this week, it is an appropriate time to do the conference previews. Based on past experience, the Interlock will be last (as usual!).

But

I was surprised to learn that the NE and NE10 divorced, but agreed to shared custody. But I did not learn that on the main D-II/III page, I found that our here in the forum. Why? Can't somebody make a few calls in August/September and ask "What's up?" and "How was your off season?" and set up relationships for the regular season?

There are more D-III schools playing college hockey than all of D-1 and D-II combined. Why can't we get better coverage??

Joecct, Scott, et al -

As I write this at approximately 1:50pm 10/29, there are 144 people viewing the DI board, 28 viewing the DIII board and 48 viewing Women's College Hockey.

At first thought, this would be the perfect excuse for delegating the DIII forum to "an after-thought". However, as Joecct has mentioned, "There are more D-III schools playing college hockey than all of D-1 and D-II combined." Why then are there over 5 times as many people viewing the DI boards? Well, in part, because DI draws more media attention, has more name recognition and "top-of-mind" awareness than all of D-1 and D-II combined. That said, IMO, it is largely a self-fulfilling prophecy on the part of the USCHO. Rather than seize the opportunity to make themselves the leading source of DIII hockey information, they choose to take a patronizing stance. IMO, we owe a lot to the great efforts made by the handful of correspondents USCHO makes available to make something from the apparent meager resources available to DIII coverage. We, as DIII faithful, can only continue to do our best in promoting DIII ice hockey, and hope that someday, someone will recognize the potential DIII hockey holds – both for its fans and as a financial opportunity (IMO, a near textbook example of a barely tapped significant niche market).

Update, as I finished writing this at about 2:08pm 10/29, there are 131 people viewing the DI board, 39 viewing the DIII board and 49 viewing Women's College Hockey.

As an additional point of comparison, using the most viewed current threads as of 2:29pm 10/29/09:

Top 2 for DIII:
“2009 Division III Hockey Commitments”, 98,676 views.
“D3 Players in the Pros”, 72,019 views.

Top 2 for DI:
“Official 2009 Minnesota offseason thread, 53,358 views
“UNH Wildcats - '09 Recruits and Beyond.. Raising "THE" Banner!”, 50,339 views.

Top 2 for the Women's College Hockey board:
“09-10 D1 Commitments”, 213,010 views.
“Minnesota Girls High School Hockey II", 79,936 views.

It would appear to me, that DIII followers are much more committed to their sport as a whole, versus their team or conference.

joecct and Norm1909,

All I can say is that USCHO resource allocation decisions are not made by the writers, stringers, or even the editors. Like all businesses, those decisions are made by the owner and executive board.

If you wish to contact them and lobby on behalf of DIII, please be my guest.

Curlers do! :)

Yet in their defense, D-III is just warming up - most of the CCCP region teams haven't held a legal practice yet (MASCAC Monday - Interlock 11/1, NE ???), so maybe we get something this week. Webb, Carey, and Jaslow are first rate reporters that cover a second tier sport. Their content is top notch, but their support is bottom dweller.

There are some interesting stories out there that deserve first month coverage:
  • Neumann?? Can they repeat???
  • MASCAC -- Will they be spectators or participants in the tournament?
  • The ECAC-NE / NE10 amicable divorce
  • MCHA - Now that they have the AQ, will they garner any respect???
  • Transfers - some biggies occurred. Why do they transfer and what impact will they have at new school and at the old school?
well hey iam the guy everyone just likes to hate.either way soo looking forward to yet another season of great hockey,so hello to everyone

I hope you don't think I was being sarcastic when I said "IMO, we owe a lot to the great efforts made by the handful of correspondents USCHO makes available to make something from the apparent meager resources available to DIII coverage." I sincerely believe they do a great job with what they are given to work worth.

As for management, IMO they are clearly looking only at "what are today's numbers" versus "what can we do to improve the numbers".

If you send me the addy (rep, post here, or joeyc3402@yahoo.com), I'll be more than happy to express my displeasure with the deteriorating D-III coverage.

Re: Call me impatient, but...

There's a full email directory of site staff here that includes the USCHO president (whom I assume would have authority from the owner to comment on coverage policies). I've used it to lodge a complaint or two before, although I'll admit I've never been directed to go straight to the top. I'd be interested in seeing what kind of response such an inquiry would garner.
