Cadets pick up a big transfer

Re: Cadets pick up a big transfer

Well, yes...but see....the nescac kids actually have to be able to read and write in order to get past those pesky wet-blanket types over at the Admissions Dept. At a place like Norwich....well, not so much.

Yea I'm sure all those kids from the Midd glory years were all A+ kids.....righhhtttt.....  If they want a kid they make it happen both grade wise and $$$ wise.....maybe some NESCAC schools follow admissions to a "T", but if you don't think they play around with admission haha...right...

Re: Cadets pick up a big transfer

To get back on the Cadets topic and not the ECAC West....I hear there are a couple other pick ups as well from other schools....a forward from Quinnipiac and a goalie from Ohio State??? Although I gather that neither was a D1 star....I would bet that 2 D1 transfers would be a welcomed addition to any D3 club. I was also told that the Cadets will be welcoming their first Czech player from the Czech National Team.....these additions, along with what I understand is a nice recruiting class, are really going to make this a fun year to watch the Cadets.....Let's get the season going.

If the quinny player is recovered from her injuries, she would be a real solid addition.

Re: Cadets pick up a big transfer

you are clueless. Are you familiar with the AI?

Yup and how at some schools a C-Band student is a B-Band at others.... its been documented in several books about how they bend the rules in both academics and FA to get those "certain" players. We are not talking about high school drop outs being put into a NESCAC school here. You still have to have some smarts. It was well documented back in the 90's when a NESCAC captain said he did not have the grades to be admitted into the school but because he played a sport he was allowed in.

That probably happens at every single NCAA school.

You're right...but I believe what PSUchamps is referring to is don't give us the "Holier than thou" attitude and the line that the NESCAC student-athletes are ALL 4.0 students and class valadictorians.

How are those NESCAC admissions slots working out?

Not too bad actually, as last I looked NESCAC teams had 5 of the 11 DIII women's titles. The NESCACs just do not have the luxury of "free agent" signings, but seem to be able to stay competitve. That may be changing and perhaps the NCAA will need to address the issue of DIII transfers and rent a players (remember that whole Nagymarosi debacle), but for now let's get the party started!!!

Re: Cadets pick up a big transfer

oh, Mr. Pres....If you think the Admissions Dept. at Bowdoin, Williams, Amherst, etc. are about the same as say...Platty, Elvira or Pots...Please give me a few hits of whatever it is you're smokin.

Bottom line...if you can play hockey [or squash, tennis, etc.] then that sports ability will certainly help you get in to a nescac school....But if you don't have very good grades and at least above average SAT [=/-600 math and verbal]...you will not get in. That's certainly not the case in the ecac West or East [other than at HC].:p

Take a quick survey of NESCAC women's hockey coaches and see how many C-bands they are allowed to bring in these days. As a matter of fact, talk to the men's coaches as well.

Re: Cadets pick up a big transfer

But isn't a NESCAC more likely to attract a top student-athlete?

I'm sure there are cases of girls who could go D1 who don't because they are pursuing education instead of athletics. I don't think being a great academic school hinders recruiting at all.

Re: Cadets pick up a big transfer

Of course it does. Do the math...if 3/4ths of all the players who are good enough to play for them...can't pass muster with Admissions....How in the world is that NOT a competitive disadvantage all nescac's face when recruiting.

While we have ivy on the buildings, the NESCACs also suffer from not being Ivies (I remember a certain D defecting to Dartmouth after 2 seasons with the Polar Bears) and we are all chasing the same player profile.

Re: Cadets pick up a big transfer

Which Nagymarosi? The one that played elsewhere in D3 already? Know she moved around a bit but done hockey for a while right?

I think the poster was making a joke. Pretty sure she started at manhattanville....transferred to RIT and then went back to Manhattanville. Something similar to that.

Re: Cadets pick up a big transfer

I was indeed making a joke for the amusement of the veteran posters on here.
