By the Numbers: Your All-Time Roster

Re: By the Numbers: Your All-Time Roster

Going with primary numbers, I agree with you on 27. I would probably pick Rick Smith as 23, for the playoff victory in 1974 over UHN if nothing else. 29 is a real washout, so I would also go to Spadafore on longevity.

What about Christian Morissette at 36. :D

BTW, I am hoping that 16 and 30 change in a few years, perhaps even after this year. :)

Nice someone actually remembers that night at UNH.

Nice someone actually remembers that night at UNH.

I remember quite vividly listening to that game on WRPI. It was RPI's last victory while I was a grad student as they didn't fair well at the Gahden the following week.

WRPI produced some famous members of the media, Lew Strauss with ABC, Kevin Hamburger still in Hollywood, then add Allen Able and Mike Pericone and print media was well covered.

Re: By the Numbers: Your All-Time Roster

Re: By the Numbers: Your All-Time Roster

RE, what can you tell me about Mr. Dornbach? He's from my town and quite the youth coach right now (will coach our Bantam A's this year, along with a former NHLer). And his kid is one of the top in his age group.

Thanks!

He grew up down the block from me and he even gave me a signed hockey stick.

Jason Blake played one year at Ferris before jumping ship to North Dakota. I'd take his freshman year over Smith. I saw them both.

I'll have to look, but Troy Milam probably belongs here too.

I may have the Lowden brothers flip-flopped. But one of them is going to get left out. One wore 9, one wore 10, and DePourcq wore 9 as well. They're the top 3 scorers all time at Ferris, so one of them gets the shaft.

I'm at work, so I'll have more later.

For Michigan.

I'm not going to pretend that I know whether Red Berenson or Brendan Morrison was a better college hockey player, so I will stick to players I actually saw play college hockey. Obviously Willard Ikola was a better #1 than Mark Chiamp, but I don't want to start guessing how good all of Michigan's dominating '50s players actually were. So...from 1975 to 2009:

1 Mark Chiamp (1981-85)
2 Dave Shand (1974-76)
3 Bubba Berenzweig (1995-99)
4 Tim Manning (1977-81)

Re: By the Numbers: Your All-Time Roster

My take on NMU - All of the players have graduated/not current players. Some done form memory, some from stats on-hand, and yes, a couple of these are really a stretch. It's amazing how in 33 years of hockey, a number may only be worn once or twice.

Maybe my CCHA bias but that is BY FAR the most impressive/deepest list I have seen...and that's not even the half of it.

OK back to hating Michigan.

EDIT: I just rechecked Minnesota's list...take away the "BY FAR"

Re: By the Numbers: Your All-Time Roster

Okay, I'm back. I needed help with numbers as well, and still do, as one of my media guides is MIA. This will probably be edited a few times.

Ferris State:

1: Craig Lisko
2: Andy Roach
3: Colin Dodunski (an admitted reach here)
4: John Gruden
5: Jason Blake
6: Troy Milam - captain of FSU's only CCHA title team
7: Randy Merrifield - 73 points in '83-84 are #2 in FSU history
8: Cody Chupp
9: John DePourcq - #3 all time leading scorer
10: Paul Lowden - all time leading scorer
11: Peter Lowden - #4 all time leading scorer
12: Paul Cook
13:
14: Chris Kunitz
15: Scot Bell (another icky face here)
16: Jim Baker - #2 all time in points
17: Dave Karpa - I'm going with the NHL vet over Nesbitt, PIM and all
18: Mark Bomersback
19: Rod Schluter - #5 scorer all time at FSU
20: Doug Smith
21: Tim Christian
22: Justin Lafayette
23: Rob Collins
24: Tim Corkery - gotta go with the guy #2 in PIM
25: Jeff Jestadt
26:
27: Greg Rallo
28: Aaron Asp
29:
30: Mike Brown
31: Rich Nagy (everyone turn and puke now)
32:
33:
34: Vince Owen. According to hockeydb, he wore #34 as a freshman. I'm cheating.
35: Pat Mazzoli

Rod Taylor and his school record 41 goals in '90-91 also wore #16, and I gave the nod to Baker
Steve Banonis, Perry Zoldak - No number available, not even from hockeydb.com
Jim File wore #2. I'm taking Roach over File. Either Roach or Gruden is the best defenseman ever to play at Ferris. I'll happily take whichever one you don't.

There isn't much goaltender depth at all, and I can't find numbers for some of the goaltending we have had, mainly from the '80's. I chose Pat Mazzoli over Jeff Blashill because Mazzoli and Lisko took this team to the Joe while Blashill spent much of '94-98 getting sunburn from the red light behind him. Osaer wore #39.

Re: By the Numbers: Your All-Time Roster

That's all I've probably going to get. I've got no one for 13, 26, 29, 32 & 33. I've got nowhere else to turn for goaltending numbers for Swierpel and Hughston, the two I was looking for, or the other guys I listed. I've seen everyone from 1990 on, so I've got at least a little basis in making those picks.

Re: By the Numbers: Your All-Time Roster

Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs

4. Curt Giles

My kid had clinics by Curt lat night and this morning. Really nice guy and good with the kids. Ran a great clinic with 30 squirts and peewees and no behavior issues at all (not easy to do).
