Business, Economics, and Taxes: Eat Cereal for Dinner

I’m not a chemist, but it appears true. Lithium-ion batteries, especially literal tons of them, would burn extremely hot. Also take up to 10x more water to extinguish.

And another. Just look how relatively poor the average American is. This chart would destroy the myths of the last 50 years.

Just a whole lot of temporarily embarrassed millionaires....

Any chemists in the building?

Can an electric vehicle fire really hit 5,000 degrees?
A colleague of mine who is also a volunteer Firefighter noticed I drove the wife’s car in one day (Subaru Soltera) and said that all local departments lack the equipment to put-out an EV fire. Their plan in the event of one is to just let it burn, then call-in Hazmat.

There are some great pizza places in Paris. I'd wager finding a shitty burger isn't that hard- I know there's a burger chain in Italy...,
There really is. One of the locals who took us out one night said it was her favorite causal restaurant in Paris. And like, it was PACKED. Like, wall to wall inside and out. Large joint too.

I have my doubts. But it’s not impossible.

Generally to reach temperatures like that you need a shit ton of fuel, a fast reaction, confinement and insulation OR a very exothermic and spontaneous reaction.

We used to have a refractory incinerator and temps only got to like 1,500-2,500 with an ENORMOUS gas burner. The conditions were ideal (confined, stoichiometric oxygen, etc)

In order to get to 5k degrees in the open you need a very specialized reaction. Thermite, for example, gets to 5k+. But I believe that’s a significantly more exothermic reaction that standard water+lithium and the byproduct reactions. The only way you’re getting to 5k is if it’s fairly well contained. Now, it’s possible the conditions within the cell got there, but I don’t buy it being that hot in the open air. The heat would dissipate far too quickly. It would be extremely localized and only if you have a large number of cell failures simultaneously.

Again, not impossible. But unlikely IMO.

They probably lack the water capacity or pump capacity.

Water+lithium is almost universally a bad idea depending on the situation. It creates hydrogen gas which obviously burns quite easily! Plus you’re probably going to see some other toxic byproducts, especially if there is any fluorine in the battery electrolyte. You’re going to get HF mixing with water, which is particularly nasty stuff. Plus there are oxidizers in the materials so you don’t even need the atmospheric oxygen to propagate the fire.

That said, you either let it burn or put an enormous amount of water on it for a very long time. The water needs to be enough to dissipate the heat AND knock down the gaseous byproducts. But primarily try to dissipate the heat.

Had an interesting discussion with a guy in real estate oversight re: Cook and the allegations against her.

tldr: bitch is going down, she's clearly guilty of fraud. So nice job, sweetheart. Because of your shadiness, rates will be artificially driven down to prop up Dump and the economy will collapse.

"Through money, democracy becomes its own destroyer, after money has destroyed intellect. But, just because the illusion that actuality can allow itself to be improved by the ideas of any Zeno or Marx has fled away; because men have learned that in the realm of reality one power-will can be overthrown only by another... there wakes at last a deep yearning for all old and worthy tradition that still lingers alive. Men are tired to disgust of money-economy. They hope for salvation from somewhere or other, for some real thing of honour and chivalry, of inward nobility, of unselfishness and duty. And now dawns the time when the form-filled powers of the blood, which the rationalism of the Megalopolis has suppressed, reawaken in the depths. Everything in the order of dynastic tradition and old nobility that has saved itself up for the future, everything that there is of high money-disdaining ethic... all this becomes suddenly the focus of immense life-forces. Caesarism grows on the soil of Democracy, but its roots thread deeply into the underground of blood tradition."
-- Oswald Spengler

Humanity has been here a few times before, and never found a way out of this trap. Today offers us another opportunity, with the cost of failure the extinction of our civilization and maybe all human life. So those of you who are still young: get working on it, fuckers. It's the only important thing anybody has in front of them for the next hundred or so years.

Huh??

The whole thing is such a BS nothingburger...

If you mean Cook then it's not apparently. She is obviously being targeted because of politics, so sure AFAIC let her skate. But she is guilty of fraud and that is serious. In another world where she was just a peon, (1) nobody would ever notice, but (2) if somebody did notice she'd go to the wall.

Sucks but true.
