Business, Economics, and Taxes: Eat Cereal for Dinner

Oh you aren't wrong, I just think it's a great joke. Given the choice, I would prefer to eat Italian food and deal with angry French lovers. 🙂

My wife has a friend who moved over there permanently, married a French man, became a citizen, etc. One of her biggest complaints after 20 years is that no one over there can produce even a competent facsimile of Mexican food. It's like they've literally never heard of a chili pepper, cumin, or cilantro.
Flashback to the Great British Bakeoff where they were peeling avocados like a potato.

Not if you’re visiting but, if you lived there, it might be nice to get a decent burger or taco every now and then. Or pancakes and bacon for breakfast once in a while.
If you are an American living in France, then the odds of you travelling back the the US is non zero, and I would eat that kind of food here if I could not make it in France.

Exactly. When our French chef is visiting the US he wants all the crap he can’t eat in France

Hey, I'm sure there are a handful of American tourists for whom even a jambon et fromage is too fancy. Gotta have their usual shitty burger or pizza after a day stomping past centuries of world class architecture and art.

There are some great pizza places in Paris. I'd wager finding a shitty burger isn't that hard- I know there's a burger chain in Italy...,

Why in the world would you want American food in France????
I wouldn't...but its friggin everywhere. My SO lived in Paris in college for a bit and when we went back in 2019 it was completely different. Hamburgers and pizza everywhere, hospitality staff that spoke English and was mostly polite. Paris sold out to the tourists.

I think you and I differ one what is considered "great pizza places" because most of the dreck in Paris is tourist trash nonsense. Might as well find a Pizza Hut or Dominos.

There are other places outside of the tourist areas....

I'm sure if one lived there, you would be able to find great pizza.

I’ll repent and say I went to a McD’s in Spain. But it was across the street from a tour we were going to go on and we were starving. I got one of the “unique” country items. It was a goat cheese burger and it was delicious and it made me sad we’ll only ever get the basic bare bones stuff in America, just like the Costco food court is better in every other country.

I believe it. I know the chickens on an actual free range farm, owned by one of my best friend’s parents, are sold almost exclusively to McDonald’s stores operating in China.

My wife follows a few people in Paris that love to go to Costco to get a hotdog. Which honestly…

Still blew me away to see it. One of them isn’t from there though, she’s a Canadian and her husband is German.

We just had a long talk about this last summer when my French chef was in mn. He specifically wanted the greasy, square cut pizza like carbones. Plenty of great neopolitan type pizza in Europe

But those guys- they are so good. From knowing what restaurants to Pick to what dishes. I never got to eat his French Michelin food at the restaurant because I couldn’t afford a $500 meal
