Business, Economics, and Taxes: Eat Cereal for Dinner

Good.

Crash. Crash. Crash.

This country needs to touch the stove with both hands and the face.

Bring on the 30+% unemployment, the breadlines, the people dying in the streets.

Let’s rip the mask of pretense off of this oligarchic hellhole.

Jim, you know that scene in The Big Short where Brad Pitt yells at the other two guys for celebrating their massive winning trade? Yeah... This is like that except point in a significantly worse direction long term and almost irreversibly as I understand it. The bond basis unwind, assuming regulations are put in place to increase margin requirements, could represent the shift away from American debt as the safest security and... like a deep recession is one thing to cheer for. But this represents something so much worse. A depression would be a moderate outcome if things keep trending this way.

You should all read this article. It's dense and somewhat complicated subject matter, but it's laid out pretty well:

I have read enough the past two days to know there is about 5 ways we are boned and short of every Republican quitting or dying not much can save us. Every foreign market believes the tariffs are real and not a ploy and are correcting to deal with it. The Fed behind closed doors is already discussing what to do because they see another '08 happening and capital is fleeing. It's not a matter of "if" anymore...

The 10 Democrats who didn't fight the CR and gave Trump this power...they will join the GOP when we eat the rich.

US Treasuries will no longer be the gold standard for other countries to invest in knowing that that money will be safe.

No country will want to finance our debt. The US dollar will no longer be the standard currency in which global trade is conducted.

The US as a country, as an economic and military ally, will be marginalized. We'll be a minor player in global influence, only thing we'll have is a big army. And even that will be a Potemkin force after Hegseth gets done with it.

We'll be Russia. Just how Putin wants it.

When, and if, this is over, first thing we need is a top tax rate of 75%. End the exemption to the estate tax. The oligarchs need to pay for the disaster they forced upon this country.

Eh, i'm not sure that's going to be true... What happens if you stop paying the army?

Good. This country needs to burn. We all collectively to suffer.

It is the only way this country will learn.

What will the military do? Nothing. The army will serve and if they won't they will be arrested. Then we will reinstate the draft and military service will mandatory.

The military is not going to rise up...hell they aren't even pushing back against the easy stuff. They may hate the Hegseth but they don't hate Trump and they won't until they start dying en masse.

Sure seems that it shows how shortsighted vlad is. The entire EU is stepping up to meet his challenge, even when the US started to balk at supporting Ukraine, they got more involved. And NATO is more than just the US, thanks to his invasion of Ukraine, it has expanded right up to his borders. With countries that have a military industry as part of them.

In the end, all marginalizing the US has done for russia was to strengthen the EU. And for the EU to find better means than relying on russia for stuff.

lol you're thinking in such normal terms. If the government stops functioning because it can't take out debt, the ability to pay for things like salaries becomes very strained very quickly. Couple that with family members struggling, watching life savings getting vaporized and I'd bet anything that private starts to wonder...

Yeah, they start breaking up into separate paramilitary groups.

And then the battle for survival starts.

It'll be an oligarchian paradise.
Except the modern day oligarchs are too stupid and too greedy to actually take advantage of it.

Armies don’t come cheap.
