It is not. The US price pre-April 2nd ($450 base / 500 with Mario Kart) were right in line with EU and UK pre-order pricing.

With the April 2nd tariffs along with the retaliatory tariffs from China today, base US price would be north of $600.

Switch 2 production is done in Vietnam, which is currently under the 4/2 tariff of 46%.

Base system would be $656.98, with game bundle $728.98.

The Vietnam leader did make a call to Trump to try to negotiate the tariff rate to be lower. Originally, pre 4/2, Vietnam tariff'd US goods at 9%.

Yeah Nintendo had already factored in a smaller tariff amount into their price but then the announced amount was significantly higher so now they’re reevaluating.

TBF, this has moved very quickly.

Nintendo announced the pricing and release date on the same day as Dump announced the tariffs.

They announced the pause on US preorders today, probably after taking a day to crunch the numbers.

What's wild is the game of chicken everyone is in right now. China called the bluff and reciprocated. EU/Canada/others are holding firm for now. Vietnam (which stands to lose *everything* they've gained from the first Trump/China spat) is panicking and trying to swing a deal. Then you have businesses that are holding to see who blinks first before they start playing their cards. And you have the markets with giant exclamation points to how stupid this whole thing is.

EU and Canada aren’t doing anything yet because they’re formulating a unified response.

China responded quickly because they already know what they want to do: They want to take over.

Was it you, or someone else that posted here that China is already backfilling the DOGE cuts power vacuum with their own versions of USAid and other US global resources across the world because they saw their opportunity to be an influence leader.

The video game industry was already heading for a crash (studios are closing, games are incredibly expensive to develop, costs on hardware and software are high), this whole thing might drop it off of a cliff.
 
Speaking of the markets Dow is down almost 1700 (now in the 38k range) and the other indexes are down over 4.5%. But hey...jobs?
