Business, Economics, and Taxes: Eat Cereal for Dinner

Gee, 100 days in and now all the people that said we had to vote for Trump to fix the economy are now writing that the economy has been destroyed. Boy, that black lady who wanted to help small businesses was scary.
Its kind of amazing watching some of them defend all of this like it is normal. Then there are the crackpots (and illegal immigrants!) like Kevin O'Leary who was a piece of chit before and now deserves to be deported out of here. Not to Canada though...send him to Honduras!

I agree it likely won't do well. A lot of people say they miss the light pickup segment, but for under $30k the Maverick is there (if Ford can get past the recent recalls) and doesn't have the electric range limitation. For people who like mods and aftermarket kits, the Jeep Wrangler still holds up as the gold standard.
Toyota (Stout) and Subaru (Baja’s revival) are also making light trucks that they’re prepping for the US market. I think the Stout is going to use the RAV4 platform as its base. I don’t know the expected timelines at this point, the tariffs might’ve even killed it.

"Despite attempting to curry favor with the Trump Fascist Regime each of the members of this photo still got railed one way or another. Elon Musk, then richest man in the world, watched his companies (Tesla, Starlink and SpaceX and X the former Twitter) each tank either because of consumer backlash due to his rather divisive and racist/sexist views and contracts ended after his DOGE actions caused Trump to throw him under the bus when his polling numbers crashed. Jeff Bezos (and his second ex wife) who in an effort to keep contracts with Trump ruined the reputation of the Washington Post by rejecting their endorsement of Trump's adversary VP Kamala Harris, brought about the ire of the administration when they displayed tariffs on their items showing how much Trump was costing them in his ineffective trade war. Finally Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Meta (formerly Facebook) who was hoping to stop an Antitrust Trial (one started under the previous Trump Administration while simultaneously dealing with similar issues in the EU) by cozying up to the disgraced former President. Trump never forgave Zuck for his actions during the COVID-19 pandemic so Meta was formerly broken up as was Alphabet (Google) who, while not pictured, also tried to stop their multiple Antitrust trials by donating money and being friendly with the former President. None of the companies were better off after Trump was out of office, and to this day they have never recovered what they lost"

Q: Why would these billionaires do all of this? They had all the power in the world they didn't need Trump they controlled the narrative, they controlled people's buying habits and they had reach around the world why spit on that for a guy who was never going to like them and alienate most of the people who like your products?

A: Wealth does not equal intelligence. They were too mentally weak to stand up to him and they figured if they just donated enough he would ignore how much he disliked them. But to be that powerful you must be an egomaniac and a narcissist and they don't play nice together. In the end Trump was always going to be the top of the pyramid and it would take more than a few billion dollars and bending a knee to keep him liking you. Any attempt at independence was an act of defiance, and Trump and his Fascists do not like that at all.

Awesome. Everyone should do that. That's taxes on the poor and middle class that we are paying while the billionaire's pay an effective rate of 6%. I pay more than that in payroll taxes alone.

Add that tariff to the blight that’s been ruing coco bean crops year or so, and you’re going to see Halloween candies going to $30 for a bag of 20 miniiature Hershey’s bars.

I don't really eat candy anymore but I would get the occasional zero sugar stuff (Type-2 diabetus). It was already pricey but for the occasional treat I was ok with it. Then my favorite brand pulled some shrinkflation recently. Fewer pieces per bag, at a price increase as well. Put them right back.

And apparently Amazon is already walking that back claiming they were only considering it and it was only for their "ultra-low-cost" Amazon Haul store.
Which is why Trump is still running the country, scared shitless. What is he going to do? Anti Trust? Bezos has too much power for that to work although it should have been done years ago

In 100 days Trump screwed up the world economy...

I'm intrigued by the patchwork trade the world will create without the US. Trump and his voters wanted "America First, America Only" and they're going to get it in a hurry.
