It's depressing in the sense that it would seem Republicans are at least partially achieving their dream of academic attrition through denigration of teachers, professors, institutions of higher ed, and degree programs that don't pay graduates a STEM salary.

It's refreshing in the sense that a 4-year degree shouldn't be considered the automatic path for every 18 year-old with a high school diploma. Higher ed administrators have milked the student loan gravy train for decades knowing they can count on 25-30% freshman attrition but still get at least a year of tuition and fees. It has arguably lowered admissions standards at most universities. A humdrum business degree from a second-tier school won't teach you how to push paper, but it will certainly saddle you with a costly lesson in student debt.

I assume the red states will eventually be home-schooled locals working at minimum wage for blue state-educated bosses and owners.

Every once in a while, one of the local talent will be cute enough to be a mistress for a few years before being discarded.

Sayeth the guy that is a project manager working with god only knows how many holders of a degree in networking err MBA.

I don't think we have any MBAs here. What we have in droves is degree mill recipients from places like American, Georgetown, and the Kennedy School of ahem "Harvard." But those degrees don't say "Business" on them, so you don't know at first glance that they're bullsh-t.

You lot are going to make me sound like a shill for higher education. People definitely should not bite off more than they can chew financially, no two ways about that. With that being said I think getting a degree offers so much more than just a credential for getting a job. You get to meet new people from all over the country/world, explore a lot of different things academically, and it is a wonderful transition into adulthood.

No doubt younger generations are much more limited than mine was. It bothers me a lot that basically the only way my kids will have anything is if I give it to them. Hopefully enough people vote Democrat and the current situation changes.

Agreed. More education is always better than less education. But there are so many jobs that demand a 4-year degree for no reason at all.

Exactly. Some of those can be done only after couple of weeks training.
Same with the private businesses. If you think about that openly, you don't need a special education or experience in order to start something, all you need is a creative idea, good business plan, some cash and lot's of desire. Would be also great to have a business advisor of course ( Holborn Assets reviews are not bad https://www.holbornhub.com/) but again, it can work even without it.

When Dr. Mrs. got her first poly she told me the polygrapher's spiel was "this is the equivalent of a Master's degree." She told me this just to p-ss me off. So, when one of my coworkers took a few years of night school to get his "doctorate" in Leadership, I paid her back with interest. Funny, she didn't think that was so funny.

Stolen valor is a b-itch.

Tesla employees reportedly captured private video and images from charging Teslas and passed them around on internal company messaging programs. Tesla owners having intimate moments, a naked driver entering the car. Etc.

Even Elon was secretly recorded as scenes from inside his garage were passed around.

Tesla made a statement that owners of the cars could not be verified because the images don't document who owns the car. But meta data from the photos included GPS coordinates.

NPR, unhappy with the mislabeling of their company at "State Owned Media" on Twitter has announced they will suspend posting any new content to Twitter.

They are remaining on the platform (for now) to protect their branding, but will not have any new Tweets. They announced that they can be found 'practically everywhere else on other social media platforms.'

Twitter/Elmo decided to tag NPR as "State-affiliated media" similar to RT, Xinhua, etc. In the wake of the resulting uproar, Elmo then revised the label on NPR's account to "Government-funded media." For those who don't know, NPR is a private, nonprofit company that has editorial independence and receives only a tiny fraction of its annual budget from the feds.

Announced today, NPR is "de-emphasizing" its Twitter usage in protest of what is false labeling (they will no longer post new stories/content). Staffers can continue to use their personal accounts within policies.

Is there an echo in here? ;^)

Elmo also blocked the mention of certain rival media platforms (substack and I think Instagram) from people's tweets or profiles...cause you know he is such a stickler for free speech!

I'm not sure if this warrants a new thread so I'm putting this here:

A friend of mine is having to deal with a case of ID theft. Last week she received a notice from the IRS that she has issues with her 2022 taxes (2021 financial year). They state she has $19,000 in unclaimed revenue on her return and owes $2500. This stems from someone getting that money from the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES aka unemployment). Apparently someone filed under her Social Security number. So far all she can prove is that the card was not sent to her address of record and has documents regarding the account being sent to her currently.

So how does one go about dealing with the IRS on this issue? Common sense says that she should easily be able to prove she never got the card (transactions likely done in areas she never was). But it is the IRS, so she kind of expects common sense to go out the window on this.

Also there is the whole deal with the SS number. Obviously that can't just be canceled and reset.

Just us ladies from the Libtard Chorale (RIP Old Pio) rushing to deliver the latest "OMG, look at what stupid thing Elmo did TODAY!". :-)

He does so many.

But hey at least he lowered the price of Tesla's again...and it has nothing to do with lagging sales or the fact he is tanking Twitter and his investors are ticked off!

My niece filed taxes for the first time this year, and was notified that someone else already filed taxes using that (her) SSN. She called the IRS, and they advised her to call 911. Surprised me, but apparently cases of fraud are considered time-sensitive enough to justify it. She called, and her local PD came over to take her statement which is apparently the first step in what will undoubtedly be a long and frustrating process to get it all cleared up.

If I wore more tinfoil, I'd swear it was all part of a plan to cancel what used to be the left's favorite social media platform. It's definitely not at all Elmo having the same moment a young Warren Buffet did when he originally bought Berkshire Hathaway out of spite and realized it was already in a downward spiral that he couldn't reverse. In Buffet's case, he kept the name and eventually folded the textile operations. In Elmo's case, he's just going to light it on fire and eventually write it off, or dump it on someone else.
