Business, Economics, and Tax Policy 8: Bezos Takes Over the World

Re: Business, Economics, and Tax Policy 8: Bezos Takes Over the World

Yet people still voted for a 1.5 trillion dollar tax cut for stock buybacks. Why? Cause they might win the lottery some day.

Hey, if I win the lottery, I'll gladly pay every penny of tax I owe.

Re: Business, Economics, and Tax Policy 8: Bezos Takes Over the World

Taxes back. Since I paid a metric ton already, I got a small refund.
Fun thing is my income went up 40k and my effective tax rate went down.

Welcome to America post-1981. The funny thing is that economic philosophy has devastated the vast majority of people and driven our national debt into the tens of trillions of dollars. How could we ever have predicted that?

Re: Business, Economics, and Tax Policy 8: Bezos Takes Over the World

Illinois new governor is looking to undo the flat tax the previous governor enacted and adopt a progressive tax structure in an effort to actually pay for state services.

A few Facebook friends who vehemently opposed the new governor shared a website where you can see what "your new tax rate would be compared to 'similar' tax rates in Iowa and Wisconsin," (two "lower" tax states that Illinois residents always use as an example of where they're moving to escape Illinois taxes).

I plugged in some basic numbers, my tax rate would be at least $500 lower than either "tax haven" state under the new laws.

I couldn't have laughed harder at these people. And I hope the new governor actually does get the new rates in place.

Well unlike many, I’m actually using my “I didn’t pay in” to stimulate local economy. 7k on a new sliding door and replacing a huge picture window; $1500 on a new battery back up sump; another 1200 or so tomorrow to pay a local roofer to melt the small ice dams

Dr. Mrs. got a nice raise this year and it looks like she will be transitioning to a new and more lucrative yet job, so we are looking at what to do with the windfall. So far I'm pretty sure all the consumer goods we've bought or will buy (Peloton, new TV, new computer) were probably made in China. We're thinking of buying the latest Forester so maybe that's slapped together in some bumblef-ck southern town or other. I hope so.

Note that as our combined income has significantly gone up over the last 10 years our effective tax percentage has decreased as well. And that is why America is dying.

I’m considering getting rid of my two year old forester. I wonder how it compares to the new one

The Forester is made in either Japan or Malaysia, 100% imported to the USA, the same as my Crosstrek.

Note to Detroit: make better cars, a-ssholes. Stop pushing all your R&D into bigger trucks for boobs.

So they should scrap the new 5 Ton Silverado that runs on Coal? Surely you jest.

Oh, I don't mind them soaking the impotent dummies $80k for their overcompensations. In fact I encourage them to push the costs even higher so they can be more competitively priced on cars for smart people.

Has Detroit produced even one model to compete in (my) Camry/Accord niche, ever? They have entries, but near as I can tell they have all been sh-t. Yes, nobody ever went broke underestimating the American public, but think how much money they could have raked in the last 30 years if they had even tried.

They have. They've all been ****.

OK, why?

Is this a deliberate decision: "we're going to throw sh-t on the market because there are plenty of dumba-sses who will go 'buy American, durr' and buy it anyway," and it's just not profitable for them to produce a quality vehicle?

Is this another thing like vaccinations and politics where the dummies ruin things for the smarties?

When greed runs everything you get ****. Case in point. Why do microwaves only last 7 years now? When you figure out the answer to that question like I have you begin to understand what America has turned into.

For a guy who's always preaching about eating the rich, you have a funny way of practicing what you're preaching! :D ;)

Malibu and the Fusion.

I heart my (2014) Malibu.

Before that, my (2002) Pontiac Grand Prix was the most bullet proof car I've ever had. It wasnt until it hit 198k that it went to sh**. Drove the sh** out of that car from 2005 when I bought it with just 28k miles on it until it died just before I bought the Malibu.

*Edit* I think the stigma of those cars comes from the fact that the Detroit makes sh*tbox versions of those cars for rentals/fleets and the general public casts judgement on that. I've never seen AT&T or Comonwealth Edison, or any other bulk buyer of fleet vehicles, have a lot of Corollas, Accords, or whatever Nissan's model is.

The Ford Taurus was the top selling car in that segment for almost two decades, but then Ford had a new CEO come into power. He scrapped the Taurus brand as "old", and started the failed Ford 500 model. He was fired, the new guy came in, showed a Ford 500 in yellow, and remarked how it looked like Homer Simpson's head, and then proceeded to give a rebirth to the Taurus line. Unfortunately for Ford, the damage was done and sales never picked up what they lost.

That was during their mis-guided "Every car from Ford starts with F!" marketing scheme, wasnt it? (Five-hundred, Fusion, Freestyle, Futura...)

I cant remember who it was from Ford that remarked "Would you like me to rename our hottest seller to 'Fustang?'"

Yeah, I forgot about their F obsession for vehicle names. Idiot CEO.
