Business, Economic, and Tax Policy 9: No, No, No, We Compost The Rich

Markets are up again evidently despite 3,000,000 new unemployment claims and what appears to be a weak response to average workers in terms of federal assistance. I Love Caitlin’s view on American capitalism and foreign policy.

They already priced the unemployment in. Those were the 3,000-point drops. They can extrapolate fairly accurately from just a single state tweeting about a single day’s unemployment numbers.

Re: Business, Economic, and Tax Policy 9: No, No, No, We Compost The Rich

Why should we bail them out if they don't pay taxes?

Yes, but how much do they contribute to campaigns?

Spending millions to save billions. It's the Citizens United way.

Generally speaking a couple items are already priced in here

Wuhan virus
Oil glut/pricing collapse
Democratic sweep in US elections

So whether or not this run back up has changed either of these () dx guess is as good as mookie’s

Re: Business, Economic, and Tax Policy 9: No, No, No, We Compost The Rich

The reason the markets are up is we are giving over a trillion to businesses to prop them up. It is all a ponzi scheme. Value went up because we are making sure none of them fail...for now. The market only cares that the stocks have value now. this is why Trump and the GOP were pushing so hard for it and why the Dems really screwed the whole thing up. They could have gotten so much more but they bent over and the people got next to nothing.

(which is why a bunch of them are already talking about the next bill which will have the items missing from this one...which is not going to happen because they have zero leverage)

Re: Business, Economic, and Tax Policy 9: No, No, No, We Compost The Rich

The exact same thing people said in '08. The government never learns. (nor do the people)

And personally I find it insulting that the Dems are pretending this package is some helpful saving grace to people. **** you all I know how to read. You might be able to fool the idiots but the educated people that were part of the Blue Wave are going to see this for what it was...a big nothingburger. You just better pray they still are motivated to vote for you in the fall because I get the feeling the numbers will shift at the end of May. (unless Covid is under control by then)

Business wins, the people lose. That is the American Way.

Maybe it's been posted but I heard Canada is giving out 2000 a month for four months to everyone. We get a one time offer of 1200. Canada also has health care for everyone. We do not.

Yeah I posted that. Disgusting that this country can’t do that. Plenty of people would rather starve or lose their business than have the “socialism” right?

Re: Business, Economic, and Tax Policy 9: No, No, No, We Compost The Rich

The D's are in a no win situation. If they held back any sort of "rescue" bill for any length of time, they would have been crucified in the Echo Chamber. The message of "The Dems don't care about America!" would have been so pronounced that it probably would have had similar results as 2016. A chunk of the country outside of the Echo Chamber would have been sold on the idea as we approach November.

That is the problem. I am not happy, but I can see why they "compromised".

Re: Business, Economic, and Tax Policy 9: No, No, No, We Compost The Rich

It's my understanding that the unemployment part of this deal is much larger than normal, as to benefits/payouts/length of time it's in effect.

If my understanding is correct, that's HUGE. And this is on top of the one-time check.

It's not even a gift of $1200. It's an advance of your tax return next year. It's your money, you just owe it back next year.

I have some news for you...

We cannot let what the terrorists do affect us. We have our strategy for the good of the country. No matter what we do, the RWNM will demonize it and their boobs will lap that up. So let's do what makes sense and ignore the f-ckwits, both in front of the camera and in front of their teevees.

The 45% of this country who vote GOP do not matter. They have taken themselves out of consideration for debate and democracy. They are traffic cones for the 55% to get around. Look at the righties on the D-1 thread. Any interaction with them is a waste. They have taken themselves out of the game, permanently.

Roll over them.

IT'S YOUR OWN GODDAMMED MONEY THE GOVERNMENT IS ADVANCING YOU!

So you're already in the hole $1200 on the 2020 Tax Return.

Do you still owe it if you die next month waiting for a ventilator?

I don't even care about the check anyway. ;) Yes, it'll help others (even though it's an advance) right now; I'm in good shape without it.

It was my understanding that they basically added a $1200 refund into your 2020 tax returns, and they are advancing that money now. I could very well be mistaken, but I believe if you would have owed $0 on your 2020 taxes, with the stimulus you would have received a $1200 refund, and it is that refund that is being advanced early. It's not like you would receive the $1200 now, and then go into your 2020 taxes and owe $1200 under this example.

I'm certainly not a tax expert however, and would love to get a more informed opinion on this.

Re: Business, Economic, and Tax Policy 9: No, No, No, We Compost The Rich

They are still getting crucified in the "Echo Chamber" so who cares? Short of changing their Party they will never not be burned at the stake by the Faux crowd. If that is why they did it they are even bigger ******* than most people think.

This deal ****ed off their own people...that is the problem with it. They were in perfect position to actually get something done that could help people and they literally caved on every item outside of the slush fund oversight. Everyone knows it, which is why no one is jumping for a joy when the Dems talk about it. They basically took what the GOP offered...pretended to care for a couple days and took it. They didnt even really argue they just spent the whole time telling everyone the deal was close. They werent fighting for anyone but the corporations.

Sorry this "Sophie's Choice" people talk about is a joke. It took all of like 10 minutes after the details were released for both sides of the aisle to basically say "so wait we get nothing?". The Dems arent all of a sudden heroes, and they wont be when Trump signs this. The same people who hated them before hate them AND NOW they risk a revolt of their own people. How losers like that won elections I will never know.

Our only hope now is the House tanks it but that wont happen. Nancy has been saying since before the Senate vote she wants the bill so she can pass it.

The sad thing is in a month the Dems will be talking about how great and bipartisan it was while the GOP stabs them in the back til the next election. But hey we get our (taxed) $1200 which is almost equal to the money the corporations got. But I am sure they will use that to pay their employees...just like the banks used it to unfreeze credit in '08.
