The 1800 it is down today will be a dream...

What is everyone's guess on the bottom? I think 15000 is a lock...myguess is 14000.
According to Alexa, it's now down over 2000 points, 10%.

Wouldn't be stunned to see 10K

Re: Business, Economic, and Tax Policy 9: No, No, No, We Compost The Rich

I think the bottom is dependent on when we hit peak virus cases.

But for fun: 13,000.

Can you explain why that's strange/alarming/horrifying to us liberal artsies, please?

Just a more severe version of what French said earlier. People are now dumping everything they can into bonds, the perceived safest place for money. I guess we'll see, this will be the biggest test of that in generations.

Yeah...9.5%. I'm sure tomorrow will rise 1000 and the Trumpers will try and pretend it is ok.

That's exactly what will happen. Two days of slow rise (or a rise and a hold, or a rise and a not so bad fall) will lead to an onslaught of "have we hit bottom?" and "It's getting better!" yelling from the Trumpeteers.

Until all those UAW workers go on unemployment ;)

(unless that was part of the deal)

One of the pieces of legislation passed by the Legislature last night was the ability for each Mainer to get an interest-free $5000 loan (no questions asked) from your bank or credit union (they signed off on this). I figure I'll get the loan (no interest) and pay off my credit card (interest). Seems like a good deal.

Sorry if you already mentioned it earlier in the thread, but what are the terms? I assume you pay this back, but over how long? And starting when?

Holy sh**. That's brilliant. I too would wonder about the payment terms, but not having interest accruing seems awesome.

I haven't seen the repayment terms, but there is no interest until 12 months after the governor declares the emergency over. I assume you wouldn't start repaying it until this is over. If you repaid it in the first 12 months there would be no interest. They have authorized three loans - one this month, one next month and one the month after, so you could take out up to $15,000 but I'm not sure I want to be on the hook for that much. But if you have interest-bearing debt, this seems like a no-brainer.

I found the paperwork for the loan deal. It's directed at people who have lost work because of Covid-19. I qualify because I should be working for the Census Bureau and we're obviously not doing anything right now. The loan program is voluntary so I may have to look a little to find a bank or credit union. The repayment is 180 days, not a full year. There is no interest as long as the amount is repaid in the 180 days. If not, interest is charged at the lender's usual percentage rate. Sounds like a great deal.

Dow down 900 in premarket training...this should end well.

That looks to take the bump from the end of the day yesterday out.

Probably looking at our FIFTH 7% circuit breaker in the last two weeks, and stocks will probably end down 5% on the day. The premarket really sucks the life out of the market, actual day trading hasn't been completely free fall.

Unless Trump speaks during trading hours. Then it will go down 10%

Re: Business, Economic, and Tax Policy 9: No, No, No, We Compost The Rich

And now DOW futures are only down 250, meaning the open won't be as disastrous.

On the upside.... Oil. Oil is actually trading up right now.

*edit* Also, this is going to be a weird opening bell, as the trading floor has been closed and all the exchanges will be electronic.
*edit2* Correction. All electronic starts Monday.

None of the cruise companies are based in the us. So they don’t have to pay taxes. They also don’t fly US flags.

I say **** em
