Re: BU season thread volume 3.1 cause board/priceless/tippycanoe deleted ours

What non bu alums are available and a better choice in your opinion?

If you told me that BU had extended an offer to one of Bazin or Leaman, I'd be 100% on board. Whether either of those two are actually available or interested is another story. Heck, if this were two or three years from now and things continue as they appear, I think I'd be interested in Carvel too.

Bennett won a title then immediately trended downward for the next four seasons. One NCAA tournament appearance, no wins. Three very average seasons missing the tournament, one decent season. He has not been able to parlay his 2014 title into building the program into a consistent contender and begs the question whether that was a flash in the pan year riding the coattails of some great forwards, some of whom were recruited by Leaman.

Re: BU season thread volume 3.1 cause board/priceless/tippycanoe deleted ours

I am not against BU hiring someone who didn't go to BU, I am wary of BU hiring someone who was not able to win .600% of his games in a worse conference with any consistency.

Re: BU season thread volume 3.1 cause board/priceless/tippycanoe deleted ours

Also, comparing what Bennett did at Union compared to what Quinn did at BU is apples and oranges. Much easier to recruit and win at BU than it is Union.

If the comparison was close I'd agree. It isn't close.

Re: BU season thread volume 3.1 cause board/priceless/tippycanoe deleted ours

It shouldn't be close. Union and BU are in totally different stratospheres. Much better facilities for BU, tradition in place and much easier to recruit to BU. Not saying you guys should hire Bennett but silly to rule him out because he hasn't won enough at a place like Union.

Much more resources at BU. However, it should be easier to win in the ECAC than it is in Hockey East.

Sure, he'd have more resources at BU. But those resources would mean he could do what, potentially recruit at the level BU is already at...driven by Albie?

Re: BU season thread volume 3.1 cause board/priceless/tippycanoe deleted ours

Unless your AD has a big ego and wants to make a splash/put his stamp on the program, I will still be stunned if it's Bennett.

Re: BU season thread volume 3.1 cause board/priceless/tippycanoe deleted ours

Good to hear IMO.

I wonder if BU is considering the whole package? Meaning, If they hire McEachern, I bet they could get Albie to stay and have both of them... it would seem less likely IMO that McEachern would come in as an assistant if Albie gets the job.... but who knows.

Jeff back pedaled on that tweet a few minutes after tweeting it. Who knows what to believe??? I think Bennett would have been a great fit at BU. Hard worker. He would be recruiting with a mansion at BU rather than a shanty.

Re: BU season thread volume 3.1 cause board/priceless/tippycanoe deleted ours

Also, I don’t really know what the recruiting pecking order is in the ECAC. Would assume it starts with Harvard and Cornell. Sure, a good coach should be able to recruit at most places but Union is a difficult job.

Re: BU season thread volume 3.1 cause board/priceless/tippycanoe deleted ours

The Boston Globe sports department has the reputation of playing King makers. Gammons did it all of the time. Cafardo carries on that tradition. KP Dupont occasionally in hockey.
KP is a BU guy, so in this case he may have some connections. He might also be trying to give McEachern a boost, since they obviously know each other from McEachern's NHL playing days.

Not a lot of Albie talk in the papers. Does he want the job? Is he even being considered? We really don't know the answer to either question.

Rick Bennett? I have doubted it from the start. Now he has supposedly pulled out? Was his name circulated to get a better deal from Union? No Jason Tapp talk? He appears to have made a better assistant and goalie coach then he ever was a goalie at BU.

BU going outside the Terrier family?
What is Leon Abbott doing these days??

There have been very few actual leaks that we know of from the inside. As it should be.

Joe Sacco no longer interested? Or BU no longer interested? Either? Neither?
We know that Jay Pandolfo was interviewed from Don Sweeney's comments. That is all that we really know on Pandolfo.

Unless it was going to be a sure thing from the college ranks - Leaman or Bazin - I still don't see the hire coming from outside the Terrier hockey family.
McEachern would be surprise, but not a shock.

And as far as not hiring someone that would jump to the NHL? I could care less about that. All that would mean is that coach was doing a good enough job that the NHL would want him.
Jack Parker used to be the highest paid coach in college hockey. Quinn must have also been on good college hockey money, which is in the $700,000 vicinity. But compare that to the $2,400,000 per that Quinn will reportedly be getting from the Rangers. Yeah, leaving for the NHL should only a be a consideration from a bottom feeder school whose coach is the program.

I think it is very safe to say that the next BU head coach will not be Len Quesnelle. Or Buddy Powers.

Dean the AD was kinda sorta hired by GQ, no? Was a peep and got in with his contract as things fell into place. ??? Or is that not entirely accurate?

Albie was a great competitor.

Here’s an interesting two paragraphs from the CHN story.

“Among other candidates considered, sources tell CHN that former NHL head coach Joe Sacco, currently an assistant with the Boston Bruins, is no longer under consideration due to not having his college degree. The Boston University administration appears steadfast on that necessity, which also rules out current AHL head coach Clark Donatelli.

Pandolfo also does not have a degree, despite playing four years for the Terriers. He signed with the New Jersey Devils following his senior season in 1996, and is two classes short. However, he is sufficiently close enough to getting his degree where it could work. Like with Tony Granato at Wisconsin, it's not believed that would stand in the way of Pandolfo getting the job, as he could finish his degree in short order, potentially even this summer.“

McEachern was smart to go back and finish is degree....

Re: BU season thread volume 3.1 cause board/priceless/tippycanoe deleted ours

Not to mention someone else a tad lazy to not finish out while “being” here four years :(

Well... the gap is probably from leaving after the end of hockey season his senior year....so he was probably her for 3 2/3 years.... but yes, would have been smarter to finish it off some summer if it is only 2 classes.

You are being too kind. His sr season ended in April and the kids are gone mid May. Couple weeks max. Sloppy

In fact that is a big red mark on an application for this job.
