Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

So you don't remember the UNH/UMass game going to 3 OTs and BU's game not starting till after 10pm one year? I do. It sucked.

OK this one time. If the game is at 10 I might even be able to grab a quick one at Sully's! :)

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Why would you have to stay for the second game?

Goes back to when my Dad took me to my first Red Sox game in 1961. I never leave games early (or don'the go to a game I paid for). Can't really explain it. To quote the late Whitney Houston, "I just DO!'

College hockey double headers are the bomb. Best viewed when your team plays first so you can relax and enjoy the second game. Also not bad when your team isn't involved if the games are decent.

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

I'm not Bob Lobel and I'm not hitting the "panic button." Just something to keep in mind....EVERY team this weekend (except BU) is desperate. UNH can't make the NCAAs without winning the tournament, and UVM and Lowell are both on the bubble. If we want to keep our #1 seed we need to bring our "A" game and win this thing! We need to play with a little bit of that desperation, and we haven't really done that this year. Full 60 minutes!

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

I was playing with the PWR predictor, and basically -- if BU wins HE, they're guaranteed a #1 seed — 3 or 4 overall. If they don't, you have Miami and Denver who are both going to play each other in the tournament.

Also, by going (mostly) straight chalk, I was able to get BC at a 12 seed (with BU as the 3, meaning they should be outside our band) and got UML, PC and Harvard in as the 13, 14 and 16. Under that situation, we'd be facing St. Cloud State in the first round.

It is possible for BU to win HE and not be a 1 seed, but it requires a very specific list of things to happen, and it is unlikely everything falls that way. Denver needs to win NCHC, MTU needs to beat MSUM in the WCHA Final, and a few other things have to happen.

Also the committee has shown much more willingness to rearrange groups based on geographic/attendance reasons, so if BU is a 1 that is set to play a 4 seed SCSU expect the committee to flip it so BU is playing one of the ECAC teams that ends up being a 4 seed, as at least one of QU, Harvard, Colgate, Yale, or SLU will be a 4.

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

The time and thought that everyone puts in to these scenarios impresses the hell out of me. I'm assuming that UNH is the host in Manchester? Should they pull off the upset, they'd go there, right? What would that mean for where BU goes?

Nothing, they'd be a 4 and BU would be a 2, so BU could still go to Manchester or Providence without there being a HE v HE that would have to be moved.

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Oh duh, right. UNH beating BU means no #1 seed. That's what was throwing me. I'll stop thinking about it now and leave the permutations to those of you that better understand it!

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Agreed that' weekend was wild with BU putting up 15 goals . Silkys slapper from blue line beat Clatkson and 4th liner Johnnie Melanson scoring a big goal in the 8-6 final. Some legit offensive talent on the ice that weekend. Dave Taylor Bill Blackwood Lance Nethery Ralph Cox Dave Lumley Rod Langway Rick Meagher Eurizione Dick Lamby and Silk

ECAC had a one-game QF at the time and, in another shootout, BU outscored Joe Mullen and BC, 8-7. Meagher was the tournament MVP.

For those out-of-towners who don't get NESN, the two semifinals and Saturday's final will air on NBCSN.

It's too mind-numbing to think about. That's why I like my philosophy...just win the tournament! :)

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

You're telling me that NESN didn't want to air in primetime the barnburner that is UVM-UML?

Man, I did not see Providence falling so far thanks to their loss to UNH.

Watching. Paint. Dry. I smell a 1-0 tractor pull. Hope I'm wrong

Ahhhhhh, I take it you weren't at Agganis this past weekend. #PlayoffModeEngaged

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

My point being that we have played from behind a lot more that one would think for a 23-win team. It won't be as easy in the post-season. We need to get off to a better start. As I previously mentioned, no panic button. Just an observation... :)

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

We played Merrimack..."slight" disparity in talent level there...

True, but Merrimack was a .500 team coming into the weekend sitting at around 30 in both PWR and KRACH. Fairly average to a little below average ranking. BU made Merrimack look like a middle of the standings AHA team last weekend. It was some of the best hockey BU has played all season.
