Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

I just got around to noticing that BU dropped to #2. A bit surprised, but thrilled.

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

This SBN tweet from earlier in the week about Michigan Tech should be all the incentive BU needs to deliver two thorough, 60-minute efforts this weekend in Wisconsin: "Sweeping Wisconsin instead of splitting would have Tech at No. 7 in Pairwise instead of 13. That loss hurts b/c Wisconsin is 56th."

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

The incoming high-end USHL offensive talent for next season (Forsbacka-Karlsson, Letunov, Carpenter) will all be 19 when arriving at BU -- similar to when Baillargeon when he took the same route to BU. I think more and more we're starting to see how important an additional development year in a league such as the USHL might be for some players in terms of readiness to contribute at the D1 level.

Forsacks-Karlsson and Carpenter are rostered for next Tuesday's 2015 USHL/NHL Prospects Game, which will be broadcast online live at no charge on Fast Hockey. Forsacka-Karlsson has been on a tear with 10 goals and 17 assists--plus a few shootout goals--in his last 19 games.

I'd be curious to know what the "tweeter" was thinking when typing that last part. Did he mean "opportunity lost because Bucky sux?" Or did he mistakenly believe that the RPI math sorts out "bad" losses and provides an extra penalty? The likely difference between 7 and 13 is from common opponent comparisons, because (practically) everybody else that has played Bucky beat them. The difference in RPI between a single win and loss is not likely to move you up or down six positions in RPI, and playing the 56th place team hurts your SOS regardless of outcome. The win-loss piece is less than 25% of RPI, while the SOS piece is >50%.

In any event, just win, lest Mookie melt down. ;)

Except Common Op is only effective in the new pairwise system when the two teams have played each other. There are 3 comparisons now, RPI and Common Op for all teams, and H2H when the two teams have played one another. So when there are not H2H matchups (as with Michigan Tech and say UVM), in the event Common Opp fall to one team and RPI falls to the other team, RPI is used as the tiebreaker. So the movement from Michigan Tech in the Pairwise was due almost entirely to their substantial drop in RPI.

Hoo boy. Lucky to have a tie there. Sloppy and lackadaisical for 55 minutes. These guys need to start playing all 60. They were great in the OT.

Not that I like your normal uniforms but man, those alternates? Not a good look IMO.

Says the man who's team wears baby-poo colored jerseys. :) I actually like 'em. They looked like Russia when they played the World Junior Team.

That own goal goal is freakin' hysterical. (We can laugh now.) Gotta crank it up tonight and get back to BU hockey. Sounds like a complete suck-fest last night.

Agreed. I like them a lot.

So where do we put that compared to the Pete MacArthur own goal off his skates in the 1-0 loss to BC back in '07?

Another notable own goal was in the 95 season in the big comeback bs the Lowell Chiefs.

What I'm trying to say is, own goals=national championships
:-D

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Gotta hand it to you guys, Bucky was getting the best of it all night until Quinn employed that own goal strategy... It sucked the life out of the Badgers and lulled them to sleep. Would have never thought of it myself.

Congrats to BU on the comeback. See you tonight back at the KC where we'll hopefully be better prepared for your Boston shenanigans!
