Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

this often happens with hoky. completely misunderstands what's being argued and turns it into a referendum on Paul Kariya when nobody has debated Paul's greatness. relax hoky, nobody is dissing Kariya.

saying it's a different era does not mean that kariya wouldn't dominate if he was in this era.

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

really? thats how you read it?
very unambiguous in saying teams are better relatively speaking today vs 92/93 era for example.

Nope, 92/93 Maine team would be best in Hockey East, Kariya would get 100 points and their line would dominate

Watch the video of Kartiya and tell me if you juiced up the colors etc you could not tell vs 93. That is not true 25 years ago but is so vs 93

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

to clarify, i didn't say "teams" are better today than the era you're talking about. i did say the game has shifted to more of a defensive minded game. at least that's what i see now compared to even watching the late 90s/early 00s BC teams.

i agree with you that the Maine team you're talking about would be best in Hockey East and Kariya would dominate.

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

I think the anti-Linna guy may have been Bomber.

Bomber may have been anti-Linna, but he is not the one I am thinking of. I met the guy whose name escapes me, I think at a regional. Maybe at the '94 FF.

And now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Will a split be ok? Or do we need a sweep? Merrimack appears to be a pretty good team...

I like our chances tonight.

Merrimack is your typical MC team...tough defense and clog up the middle of the ice. I think a split is what happens due to the youth of BU and the terriers overlook MC a little bit.

Not me! But yeah, despite my Finnish genes, not a Kaj Linna fan. Hat trick vs. Lake State notwithstanding.

Help me out here: Paul Kariya and Jack Eichel vs. Ditka. Who wins?

Haven't you been paying attention? Kariya don't need no help. Even the combined armies of Hitler and Stalin would stand helpless vs. the might of Paul Kariya.

before we move on, i need to add that while hoky says hea is down -- i think it's just more competitive (parity). back when kariya played he wasn't going against 24 yo freshmen.
while the talent may not be there, the depth we now see in college hockey is deeper than ever with overage kids (heck, MEN) now playing.

sorta why (beyond the change of 'dump and suck' (c) rover) the change of scenery for charlie had his numbers jump a couple years ago. easier to play against 18yo kids than 24 year old men.

C'mon, Hoky. Not to minimize Kariya's achievement, but the game has changed dramatically since the early '90's. The baseline quality of players has declined (more opportunities in pros, Jrs, etc.), and the quality of defense has soared. Someone commented this week, (not on this board), that BU's 3 goals per game would be enough to win most games. In the early '90's, 3 GPG would have you in the league basement.
case in point Maldens Matt Marden averaged 12 goals a year in a nice career in mid 70's He couldnt get a sniff of a D1 program today slow and more slow

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Eichel is probably not only scoring on the ice, but off it too. BU puck bunnies would be all over him

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Anyone catch Toot mentioning Modano in the opening. Amonte, McEachern, Tkachuk, Modano.....we've had our share of great players :D

yes- caught that- brain freeze

Have to agree somewhat that HE is down- Inter-conference record is poor
That's one of reasons BU is at 12 in pairwise this morning
Overall league needs to win holiday out of conference games
