Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Yeah, I just don't see this as a .500 team with the talent they have even minus Eichel. Quinn has brought in good players particularly on D. Add that to the existing talent (O'Regan, Rodrigues, Oksanen, Hohmann and that's not a losing team. Might be a few more ties in there obviously put there's definitely been an upgrade in the quality of the players this year.

They did bring in good players for sure. Last year they were well below .500 so an upgrade could still get us to .500. We will agree to disagree... without Eichel I see this team as improved form last year, but still struggling to be much above .500. Just my opinion.

Nah, that's cool. Its a better discussion to have instead of the "when the F is Parker going to retire!!!" discussions we were all having for about a decade previously. ;)

Eichel leading the nation with 21 points. Anyone else think that sounds light for the leading scorer in the country? Shouldn't there be someone from Canisius or somewhere with like 30 points?

very..

When Kariya was a true 18 year old freshmen he finished with 100 points and won the Hobey.

Just to keep things in check.

Hadn't considered it, but just looked. At this point last year 21 points would have put Eichel in a 3 way tie for 7th with Kevin Hayes and Ross Mauermann. Greg Carey had 29 for St Lawrence and lead the nation. Gaudreau was 2nd at 25. All players in the top 7 had played more games than Eichel has so far this year.

Interestingly at this point BC had just put Gaudreau and Hayes together on a line, so most of those points were unrelated to each other.

Hasn't he played relatively fewer games though, as in some people have played 15 and he's around 12? The point being had he played as many regular season games as some schools have, he might be closer to that 30 point level you were expecting.

C'mon, Hoky. Not to minimize Kariya's achievement, but the game has changed dramatically since the early '90's. The baseline quality of players has declined (more opportunities in pros, Jrs, etc.), and the quality of defense has soared. Someone commented this week, (not on this board), that BU's 3 goals per game would be enough to win most games. In the early '90's, 3 GPG would have you in the league basement.

different game now. at all high levels.

just to compare, that umo team scored 292g in 45games. bu's 95 team 224 in 40games. when was the last time any hea team scored even 200 goals in a season?!?!?

That Maine team would have beaten current BU team by 7+ goals every game.

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Imes was a +59 and had 35 points as a dman on that maine team.
They lost 1 game, 7-6 in OT to Bu, came back the next night and blew them out 6-1.

Kariya 100 pts, + 49
Montgomery 95 points, +50
Ingraham 85 points, +46, 45 goals
2 other guys over 50 points, team had over 775 points

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

The key was maine scored three times more than they gave up. avg 6.75 per game for 2.3 vs

now they score 3.75 and give up 2+

They could score and play D

It's definitely tough to match eras. BU's 70-71 national champions were one of the most dominant teams of the modern era, averaging a 7-2 win over 31 games. 210 GF vs. 60 GA. 28-2-1 record. Power play success was 40%.

Not arguing but how is 210 GF and 60 GA a 7-2 win
