Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Taking a small break from talk of a goal horn and game time production to encourage you all to take some time and watch this video of Travis Roy accepting the Christopher Reeve Spirit of Courage Award on November 20th. The Travis Roy Foundation donated $425,000 to the Christopher Reeve Foundation to help fund a clinical trial. He was introduced by Christopher Reeve's son Will and the CEO of Jet Blue. The video is about 20 minutes long, but it's pretty wonderful.

Nice watch. Thanks for sharing.

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

I believe that the band still does play shortened versions of it at the beginning of each period.

This horn was much better than the last attempt at a horn a few years ago.

Yeah, it is a shortened version of the Peter Gunn theme.

Why shorten it? It is tradition, going back to the days of Jack Kelley. Apparently it was Coach Kelley's favorite TV show in the early 1960s.
(Lowell uses it, sometimes, too, because former coach Billy Riley - who played at BU under Kelley - also liked it.)

The problem with the band, if it can be classified as a "problem", is they play the same songs at the same time every singles game. They have a script, and they are sticking to it.
I go to a few women's hockey games each season, and it is the exact same script every year.

Thankfully they appear to have done away with "We are halfway there ..." song that they'd play in the middle of the second period, and the students would sing along with whether BU was winning or losing.

A new song, here or there, or maybe just shuffling the lineup card may help make things more interesting.

That said, they should stick with Peter Gunn and play the longer version. At the very least at the start of the game.

BTW, one thing that is much better this year is the video introduction. Last season's was pretty lame, and so was the team.

On the PP, Brandon Fortunato on the point. It's obvious he doesn't want to shoot the puck. No matter how well he passes, having a point man who won't shoot is akin to giving the opposition a free square.

Completely agree. He needs to mix it up and take the occasional shot. The kid is a slick passer, but he needs to shoot more.

And if they are going to have Oksanen and Rodriguez together on the powerplay, put Oksanen back on the point (he was a defenseman the past two years, after all) and play Rodriguez on the wing (he is weak defensively, and has cost a few shorthanded goals already).

Wait a minute...there was a goal horn at the Harvard game? Totally missed that, and I was there.
Thought BU, overall, outplayed Harvard. Hoky prediction therefore pure luck. Harvard's top line is pretty slick, though.
When Fortunato gets caught in his own end for any extended time, BU is screwed. It's like playing with a guy who's missing a stick. Ugh.

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Team came out to piped in music, not the band again. And BU has now been out scored 4-0 since, well, I won't mention it since I'm in the minority here.

Grapes should be showing that Eichel goal next coaches corner---
"Now here. Here's Jack Eichel of Boston university scoring against some nice 24yo Canadian boys..."

They've come out to Sandstorm prior to intros and opening puck drop every game this season, including exhibition.

LOL. That might very well be the case. That boy needs some "seasoning" and about a year and a half in the weight room.

This team and the third period. I got on my plane in Detroit when it was still 2-2. I felt pretty confident they'd win this one.

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

The Harvard game aside, this team has some swagger now. That was a very good opponent tonight that got steamrolled in the 3d period. Nice to know you can play 30 minutes and beat the 9th ranked team in the country going away.

Yeah, maybe I just haven't been paying attention (and I don't always arrive early enough to get there pre-intros) but I feel as if I haven't heard the peter gunn song in a long long time. I wish they did mix it up on occasion and skate out to that though.

I personally kind of like the horn, but they do need to coordinate with the band… as mentioned before, a couple of short quick blasts then the band kicks in. As for the piped in music, I also don't mind it (and kind of like it) but I do think it should be about a 4:1 ratio of band to piped in. There must be a way they can coordinate that too.

Did they blast the horn after Eichels goal? If so I somehow didn't notice it.

The band was good last night. I feel like I heard them playing a couple of songs we haven't heard before (although scratching my head here because now I can't remember what they were even though I made a mental note of them last night).

That goal by Roy Hobbs, I mean JE, looked like The Flower beating Cheesy on Causeway Street in the 1970s. What a shot. What a player.

Fell asleep watching the highlights on <a href="http://www.goterriers.com">Go Terriers</a> What's up with the guy doing the narrating? Sounds like he's at a funeral...

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Anyone know what the chippy play and animosity was all about last night? These teams don't have a history, but it seemed like they were chirping at each other and constantly hitting and shoving each other after the whistle. Looked like BU initiated most of it too. Was it part of Quinn's strategy? Does Colgate generally take a lot of retaliatory penalties?
