Don't be so sure. I saw a leaked Pats schedule online today. It shows that the Pats are on the road for the final 3 weeks of the NFL season. They could play the college game during the week before the NHL game.

If you were a GM who missed the chance to draft McDavid but could draft Eichel, wouldn't you be excited by that opportunity? And the value a talented prospect of that level can add to an organization for years to come?

Just read Gretzkys comments. The way he talks it is almost like there is only 1 top pick
Eichel will be a top 2 line guy in nhl for a long time. prob an all star
McDavid is a generational talent.

Today in the THN office, we discussed the idea that, while Connor McDavid shapes up to be a dynamic league-changer in the vein of Sidney Crosby, Eichel could be a pure winner in the mold of Jonathan Toews.

better face of guy? didnt show that lately. there is not one nhl team that would not take mcdavid first now

JE is a great pick and will be all star etc
just not a mcdavid, but they only come along every 15-20 years.
gretzky must be wrong as well. heard him around 2 today on nhl channel. said no gm in league would ever trade him, best in 20 + years.

I presume McDavid is better based on everything I've read. I haven't had the opportunity to watch him play other than the wjc, where he was the best player on the best team.
Tim Murray seems, like a lot of people, seems to think that Eichel is more than a top 6 forward or all star, as high praise as that is. LeBrun article above he says JE could also be a franchise player. I believe there is a gap, but I don't think many hockey people think it is as big as you do. But, who cares what anyone of us thinks. The kids will play and we'll all know in a few years...

mookie has typed this already, but from what we saw eichel is a filthy skating and puck handler - but doesn't have that scoring touch that will get him 50 goals in the nhl.
i can see jack putting up joe thornton numbers. CM however does score and he would be more inclined to hit 50 like sidney.
both guys were taking 1 overall and have been top level players for their long productive careers. but they are different in that one sense. (and even then none of them approach mario )

Mcdavid is #1, but I think is is closer than Gretzky is making it out to be. (although I admit that I've seen mcdavid a lot less than Eichel)
Some of that Gretzky talk is Canadians being homers and trying to build up the Canadian kid. Lord knows there is no way an American kid could be nearly as good as a kid from Canada.
Not to mention the "Canadian kid goes to a once great Canadian team and rescues their fortunes" is a great marketing story.

Eichel is phenomenal.
McDavid is exceptionally phenomenal.
#1 pick well deserved for CMd.
just remember though.. it's team sport & often times, especially at the pro level.. fortunes are made or broken based on the pieces around the great ones. Same applies here.

I meant to ask this question earlier about the banquet: I was wondering if anyone who went noticed if they had senior sketches for those who attended, as they have in past years. I didn't see them there this year.
